Last week my son moved from the US to Germany to live, that's where his wife is from. So I made him a thing called a "touch place", it can be almost anything, a statue, a rock, or in this case a piece of wood. This piece of wood is from a walnut tree in my yard, the home my kids grew up in, my son is an arborist and he actually trimmed the tree and I used a piece that he cut to make his touch place. I also made one for my daughter though I don't see her moving out of the country.
The goal of a touch place is for luck, or remeberence, express gratitude, keep you grounded, or in this case to have a connection with your roots or home. It's a simple thing, you place in your home and when you walk past it you touch it.
Anyway...I know its kind of silly, but both the kids seemed to like the idea.
