My sister fell and broke her hip last night

She can`t catch a break (no pun intended) I guess she went to sit down and missed her chair. My BIL called my niece (she lives next door) to come help her get up. But she thought something seemed wrong so she called 911. Yep,hip was broken. BUT,my sister has end stage COPD,so they did not want to put her under to do a hip replacement. So they opted instead to put a rod in her femur using an epidural. She had the surgery a few hours ago and is very groggy but doing well. They wanted to be able to get her walking within a couple of hours. This is not going to be fun for her.

Be very,very careful everyone!

Oh my goodness, Mrs. R... that's terrible! Your poor sister! I hope she can make a speedy and easy recovery. (And missing the chair totally sounds like something I would do.)

I'm so sorry to hear this Mrs. R. I'll keep your sister in my thoughts. I hope she recovers well from this.

Terrible thing to happen at home, I hope
that she a high tolerance to pain and
heals quickly.

Mike.

Thank you everyone for your wellwishes. My younger sister and I are going to go see her today and my two years older than me sister is driving there as well. It`s a 3 hour drive for us but about a 5 hour drive for her. I remember hearing once that a broken hip is often the beginning of the end for older folks-something that can be very hard to recover from. And with her breathing problems,I know it will be especially difficult. That sounds so negative,I know, but I am very concerned.

Bad news about your sister Mrs. R, hope she has a full recovery. My mother in law broke her hip and never went to the hospital for it. When she was in the hospital years later for other health problems, the doctor mentioned that her hip looked good and healed very well considering she had no medical intervention.

The poor lady. At certain age (not the same for all of us), operations unless absolutely necessary are best avoided due to unforeseen complications. Sounds like the docs have made the best of her situation with the least risk involved. Hope all goes well for her.

Hope your sister is soon feeling better Mrs R
