The day that my daughter got married her future MIL sent her daughter to our house before the wedding to make sure my daughter didn't look Gawdy. Because I am Italian and she thinks all Italians are Gawdy. My daughter and her son had dated for 4yrs before marrying and my daughter never looked Gawdy. She even wanted to pick out what I should wear.Do you think my daughter looks Gawdy? Here is my daughter and my son.

I think she is beautiful and had very good taste!
 
Oh, puh...leeze. Your daughter looks beautiful and simply elegant. If MIL thinks all Italians are gaudy she needs to get her eyes and attitude checked. She had a colossal nerve sending her daughter over to do an inspection. Who does she think she is? I don't care who she thinks she is, she has no cause or right to subject your daughter to any kind of scrutiny. She obviously has no respect for your daughter or her own son. What a sh*tty thing to do to her especially on their wedding day! She must really be a piece of ... work.

La suocera è una maniaca del controllo. In plain English...the MIL is a control freak. She evidently has control of her own daughter, and she wants to straighten out and control your daughter as well. She's the one who needs to be straightened out in no uncertain terms.

It's your daughters and her sons wedding day. They get to dress however they want to. MIL has no business sticking her nose in, period. She's lucky you didn't punch her in it!

So, Sassy, tell us how your sweet daughter handled this intrusion. I'd love to know.

I wouldn't say she is a "character." I'd say she sounds like a control freak. And a very rude, insensitive person.

Your daughter looks lovely. But even if she was "gaudy," what kind of person would set themselves up as the Clothing Monitor and dare to insult her that way on her wedding day, no less?
 
Sassy, how long ago was that and how is your daughter’s relationship with her MIL? Almost seems like MIL wanted to cause a fuss and cancel the wedding.

P.S. Your daughter is beautiful. She looked radiant.

The strange thing is that her MIL weighs over 250lbs. She is a very cruel woman. Her husband had a stroke years ago and she can't wait for him to die. She met a woman in the Supermarket and pays her to go every other day to bathe her husband.A few years ago we were having Thanksgiving dinner and going around the table saying what we were thankful for. Her husband said he was thankful that his wife takes care of him after his stroke and she said she wouldn't be thankful until he dropped dead. My granddaughter jumped up and ran out of the room crying.

Nope. She is very beautiful, and is tastefully dressed.

I try to stay away as much as possible but unfortunately, I will be in her company tomorrow.

His mother is very cold towards him. She sent him to her friend's house many miles away for the entire summer. Whenever he asks how his Dad is doing she just says "Sadly he is still alive !"She is a real trip, while on the other hand, her husband was a great guy to everyone.
