It's A different Ballgame than the 1880's to 1920's and I can't help but feel that the Compassion and concern that is currently being expressed doesn't come back and bite us right in the ass.

Boatloads of Jewish children posed no possible threat. Not a good comparison Shal with the current crisis.

Women & Children certainly don't pose a threat but their mere presense and religious/political backround could make them targets for opposing religious/political/factions by other Muslims, just like what has been happening in Syria. We are then in the position of not only feeding/clothing/housing refugees, but providing security for their well being. Yep-- We are a big prosperous and generous nation but given the huge number of Legal/Illegal immigrants of recent years and the costs involved, can we really afford all this and still maintain all the Obama Social Welfare Goodies/ Military Wastes/Foreign Aid Wastes. Just taxing the rich more ain't gonna cut it.
 
I'm not positive Lon, but I'm pretty sure that I've read with reference to Canada, that our birth rate is down to the point that combined with our aging population, we require immigration to simply maintain the status quo.

Maybe it's different in the US but our country needs immigration. Not only to keep the numbers up, but it's good for the economy ultimately.

Fifty percent of your country's budget (approximately) is spent on bombs and soldiers and the stuff of war. Maybe you should cut back on that. Put the money into noble things instead.

According to this map of the US cost we have the 'Largest Budget Items' listed as being - (1)Medicare/Medicaid, (2)Social Security, (3)Defense/War, (4)Net Interest On Debt, (3)Federal Pensions

So our military budget is half of the Medicare/Medicaid budget which is the largest. As it must be.

That does not change their status in the list of expenses. They are the highest and still not enough to guarantee their existence in the future.
 
A very small tweek to FICA to increase the cap from $118,000 to $250,000 or even $500,000 will be enough to make it solvent forever. BUT.. of course Republicans will not consider that.. because they really don't WANT to fix it... they want it PRIVATIZED.

Jewish and other past refugee groups didn't wrap their women and children in explosive vests, sending them to Allah as they take many innocent lives. The French raid this past week that took out the leader of that latest terrorist mass murder saw a female blow herself up with an explosives vest.

The U.S. has ALWAYS been welcoming of the unfortunate and downtrodden. Read the inscription on the base of the Statue of Liberty!! We have adhered to that for well over 200 years. I'm sorry, but this refugee crisis is different. Here, we have a religious ideology that has no second thought about using any inhumane means possible to infiltrate and commit murder. Will the innocents of the Syrian population die due to this "religion of peace" invoking their inhumane beliefs on the rest of the world? Certainly!! How many more Paris type attacks are you willing to see just so we can say we were benevolent to those refugees seeking shelter in other countries? How many more mall bombings, hotel hostage/murder events, etc. do you want to see so we can pat ourselves on the back and say we did our "duty"??
 
I don't think anyone is wanting pats on the back.

People are forgetting that these refugees are innocent VICTIMS of ISIS....they are running away from the same people that we are against.

You know, I hope the rest of the world does not judge us by the crazy gun yielding murdering extremist that are killing people in this country and decide to close their doors on us.

I recently read that some congressmen from Texas were upset and did not want the refugees in their state because it was too easy for them to buy weapons.....now, if that is not rich!

It would be funny if it were not so sad.

Why do you always want to take someones idle talk and try to make it a Republican effort. It is not. Not even a discussion in Congress that I know of.

Lies and distortions must be a part of the Dumbocrat party methods. You should not follow their instructions. Post only facts to avoid being called a Dumbocrat.

In recent days, Bush has said Social Security remains one of the "big items" he wants to tackle next year and he continues to "believe that a worker, at his or her option, ought to be allowed to put some of their own money . . . in a private savings account, an account that they call their own."

"Just when you thought your Social Security was safe from privatization, George Bush is bringing back his plan to privatize Social Security and cut guaranteed benefits," declared a news release from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the party's fundraising arm for Senate races.

Democratic strategists were gleeful about the chance to draw a sharp distinction between the parties on Social Security, an explosive issue among elderly voters. "I couldn't believe it. What an opening," Democratic pollster Celinda Lake said. "I think he had an out-of-body experience."

Some Republicans were equally perplexed by Bush's timing.

"I guess you could argue if it gets Iraq off the front page, it was probably a good thing at this point," said Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.), a top Republican strategist who opposed the president's Social Security plan. But a new White House push on the issue "is not going anywhere. This president never likes to back down. I think he's putting it on the table, but I don't think anybody's going to pick it up."

I think that if rules are made for one group... See sticky at the top of forum.... the VERY same rule should apply to the other group.. and I have said so... I have followed that rule and fully expect Bob to do the same..
