My younger brother and wife are opposites with the CV19

They are in their mid 50’s, great health and completely paranoid about the CV19. They have not left their home until yesterday since March 10th. And yesterday they sent me a pic, they were in their yard.....with masks on. They have an elaborate system with an isolated room, plastic on the floor to accept deliveries....where things like groceries are sanitized with gloves and masks on, then thrown away. Their immune systems have to be severely compromised!

I, on the other hand have been outside as much as possible. Walking, playing tennis etc....getting fresh air, natural sunlight vitamin d. Have been to Home Depot nearly 20 times, with a mask as I have to meet a contractor there daily to pay for materials for an apartment rehab.

I also go to my favorite Mexican restaurant twice weekly for carry out. Nothing has really changed that much for me. Flying to Florida Sunday for a week to play tennis with some friends.

So, I think they are crazy........and they think I am crazy. Perhaps, we are all crazy!

Everyone has a different level of concern that varies from reasonable caution to complete paranoia. I have no problem with people who are frightened, but I do have a problem with people trying to make ME as paranoid as they are.
I've been going out daily for walks & visiting friends who are in their 80's & want me to bring groceries. They aren't concerned. They take reasonable precautions like I do - washing hands, showering & changing clothes when I get home. I do that anyway during flu season. I wear a mask when shopping, only because it's required, not because it protects.

My sister has a higher level of fear; she goes shopping, but won't visit friends. She has a married son with a 2-year-old & another due in 3 months & they won't allow her to visit in the house; only outside. Whatever works for them.......

Here's how crazy I am. I'm going to my grandson's outdoor birthday party, but wouldn't get on an airplane to go there. I recently saw a doctor speaking from a hospital bed describing all the precautions he took to avoid becoming infected at work, yet he picked up the virus on a flight he took to give a talk in another city.

Impossible! I'm sure he wore a mask.

My older brothers are dismissive of covid-19 and have never stopped doing all of the things they always did (daily takeout, allowed shopping) without any fear. The problem is that they visit my 83-year-old mother. It shouldn't bother me because she has never given up going out, but she has cut back on how much she goes and the places she visits. They live in the Mid-Atlantic states and have had to deal with mandatory masks, which they hate.

My husband and I, on the other hand, have stayed home, mostly due to his health problems. We're lucky that we're in Florida and I'm always out in the yard or biking/walking in the neighborhood. I don't really need to go into stores and have found that Walmart curbside pickup works great. We will get Chick-Fil-A takeout about once a week, but they've made it as safe as possible.

Since we've come this far without any real disruption to our lives, we'll wait to see how the reopening of Florida goes before heading back to the stores. Right now things look really good here, and I look forward to being back in Publix in a couple of weeks.

We all should be allowed to find our own level of COVID19 crazy without being challenged by people.

I wear a mask when I need to go into a place of business or where I can't be sure of maintaining a social distance of six feet.

This morning after I deposited my stimulus check at the bank I stopped at the gas station for the first time in two months to top up the tank. A woman wearing a mask as she drove up alone gave me the stink eye because I wasn't wearing my mask. We were well over twenty feet apart and my mask was on the car seat because I had just worn it at the bank. To her, I was throwing caution to the wind and for me, I felt that I was being reasonably responsible.

I think being in a crowd during this time is dangerous. My husband and I are following the rules about going out. At our age now we are more possible to contact this virus. We speak to our 2 grandsons everyday by phone and my daughter and my granddaughter have stopped at our house a few times,
but they don't come inside. We don't touch or hug and kiss, but we get to see them. We don't want to expose them to anything and they don't want us to be exposed. I feel better taking these precautions.

How could he possibly know where and when he got the virus? It can take 14 days to show symptoms, so he could've gotten it anywhere in those 14 days.

That's where my mind went, too.

I'm a lot happier being safe than sorry. Hubby & I shop roughly once per week with mask and gloves, sanitizing our hands before entering the car, washing them thoroughly when arriving home, and then again after putting away groceries.

For the past month or more, Covid-19 has been the leading cause of death in Los Angeles County, so we are not ready to let our guard down.

Fmdog, I just started a new thread about new outbreaks in states that were premature in opening up. See "New hot spots."

It's good you are able to do those things. I'd just be concerned about flying since the airlines haven't gotten their act together on the social distancing in regards to their seating arrangements. I just saw a news report calling for the feds to step in and establish a uniform protocol that all airlines must follow since none is in place now. Anyway, safe travels...enjoy yourself and stay well.

Stink eye? It’s not a name I’m familiar with but seeing it’s use in context, I’m guessing it’s the equivalent to the evil eye. People giving you that cold glare that lasts longer than it should in hopes of making you squirm. Is that right?

Where we live you rarely see anyone with a mask on but people certainly are practising social distancing. It doesnt bother me whether they wear one or not. As long as they keep their distance but I certainly make sure that happens
