India. The city of Nagpur, which escaped the worst of the pandemic last year, was the first city to be overwhelmed by the virus in the most recent wave. The rate of infection and the number of deaths continues to reach new heights, prompting authorities to convert busses into hearses to carry the dead en masse.

All hospitals in the city have run out of spare ventilators and oxygen supplies are at critical levels.
The strain in the public system has been so chronic that patients have been forced to share beds.

From what I saw of hospitals in India, there wasn't much equipment there in the first place..

Except for the large hospitals in the cities,, most "hospitals" are tiny little places owned and run by a doctor. At best, they're the equivalent of a poorly-run walk-in clinic.
Yes, this is the reason why the British government has cut back on donations to other countries. The money given is not used for its intended purpose, and essential services depend instead on the goodwill of charities and the British public.

Firghtening situation. Nagpur is the third largest city and the winter capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra. Doctors in Nagpur believe the recently discovered 'double mutant' variant is partly to blame. The 'double mutation' variant spreads faster and younger patients are suffering more severe symptoms with patients as young as 14 being affected unlike the last surge when doctors were not seeing anybody less than 25 years old with severe symptoms.

Hospital readmissions are four times higher than last year with some people getting reinfections and the Maharashtra district is now using modified rail carriages to accommodate COVID-19 patients.

..and aside from the lack of specialist medical equipment..look at the filth ?....:(

When you look at India as a whole, the spike looks bad....

But when you compare the raw numbers as compared to other countries, it's not as bad as a
chart alone makes it look. India's total cases per 1M population, and total deaths per 1M are
lower than every other country in the top 10 highest infected list, and this is with a population
3½ times the size of the U S.

Of-course the circumstances that people living in any of these third world countries always make it
worse. Not enough Doctors, not enough medical eperience, not enough hospitals, or medicine, not
enough healthy food, not enough clean water, and many other sub-standard living conditions make things
really difficult for these people.

All of this information is available with the latest published numbers on the worldometer/covid website btw...

Looks like India's cases are on a severe upswing. Hoping they are able to get their arms around the outbreak.
