Nap? Or no nap?

When we travel by air my wife finds it very difficult to relax much less sleep. I on the other hand can doze off seated at the gate or onboard in no time flat. Put me in even a five star hotel for a night or two and I'll be awakened by building noises or light. I'm a guy who put a poncho around me and slept leaning against a tree during monsoon season, call me crazy I won't argue the point.

I learned how to 'Nap' during the wait between loading B-52's at a very early age (18).
Not a full-on Nap, just sitting, eyes closed, recharging.
We never had a set shift length; you just worked till all the planes were loaded.

Refined the technic during my 24 years, when told to 'Hurry Up and Wait', during my deployments.

My wife is still amazed how I can take a nap in my favorite chair, holding a drink and never let it fall!

A teacher friend could go in the staff room at recess, fall asleep for 15 minutes and get up totally rested. He’d do the same at lunch hour if he wanted. It didn’t even faze him that there were other teachers milling about the room.

I take naps if I'm sleepy during the day. No reason not to since a nap doesn't affect me going to sleep at night.

I have a friend who as he got older started taking "power" naps. We'd be planning on going out to take a short hike or something, but he would have to take a power nap first. He would go to his bedroom and lie down for 20 minutes or so, and then he would be ready. I don't know if he actually slept or just rested. This whole thing is beyond my ability to comprehend. I don't doubt that this does something for him, but I cannot relate to it. The name throws me. Power in a nap? Does not compute.

Just looked it up. It's actually a thing according to the Cleveland Clinic: Power Naps: Benefits and How To Do It

I lie down with heating blanket and book. When the dropping of my book wakes me up, I know I'm good to go.

Sometimes I'll have a short nap. These medications I am taking make me tired so I like to sleep whenever I can.
I have the same problem. The medication that I’m on makes me sleep far more than I’m used to. Today I had a long nap. I hope I haven’t ruined my sleep for tonight.

Note: I hope your pinched nerve is feeling a bit better.
