NASCAR Making History!

Two female pit crew members making history in Daytona Cup race!

At the Coke Zero Sugar 400, both an African-American girl and a White girl were in the pit changing tires for one of the drivers. The black girl had all kinds press and NASCAR watching her, since NASCAR has always been a predominately White sport with males. Danica Patrick made history, being the only girl driver to race in NASCAR, but had to quit.

NASCAR has a new diversity program going on that the young black girl got involved with. She hopes that more people, of her race, will get involved with the sport and that more women will as well.

As for me, I'd love to see a black male or female NASCAR driver AND more women joining pit crews.

Women have quickly progressed more and more in life and I think that terrific!

All I can say is...….."You GO ladies!!"

Hate to burst your bubble but......There is a whole host of women that have driven in NASCAR . Long before Patrick.

Shawna Robinson , Patty Moise , Janet Guthrie....etc. Going way back...over 100 at least.

As for back drivers?.....Bubba Wallace current driver is black....20 or so yrs back there was Willy T Ribbs...So it's not all new.

The female pit crew members? I'd have to look up...that may [be] new? But I think there was one that started about 10 or so yrs ago.

Interesting. The article really highlighted both ladies, but the black one very much so. Guess who ever wrote the article doesn't know much about NASCAR history.

Thanks for informing me.

Women have been accepted and involved in racing for a long time now.

Don’t know about the word “accepted”. Danica Patrick sure wasn’t accepted very well on the track. The guys in NASCAR didn’t want to or allow her to win a single race. OTOH, Shirley “Cha Cha” Muldowny was very respected as a NHRA driver. Even made a movie about her.

There are still male dominated sports, like NHL, MLB, NFL and NASCAR. No women drivers in Cigarette Boat Racing either.

Years ago...way back. There was a female motorcycle racer named Carter Alsop. As i recall she was sort of a richy-rich girl, but wanted to make her own way.

Turns out she was pretty damn good but...an accident changed her mind on continuing....[not sure on memory here] ?

This was in the 70's-early 80's I heard she now has a dealership .

Gotta argue with ya there Rocker....Patrick was given some of the best equipment & rides, in both Indy car [team Andretti] And in nascar [Stewart-Haas] for example. Her losses were her own doing. She was just not aggressive enough.

She had car control...she proved that several times in accident avoidance. She just wouldn't put her foot down.

Very true!

Did see her get the Poll position before. Really wished she would have won one race, but just like you said, she didn’t try hard enough.

Perhaps, I hope, another lady will try and run with NASCAR.

Danica sure got the Press and had a fan base, but that was then and now is now.

She did win a rain-shortened Indy-Car race in Japan...years back.

Much pissin'& moanin' about the win due to the race being called for hard rain, after the half-way point due to a downpour. She happened to be in front when many of the teams went in for tires.....Her team chose to stay out, to hopefully gain track position . The race was called...she won.

Her firey personality & good looks got her allot of attention. Plus the fact that she was so damn little...100 pounds .

In her early years she was serious about it. Quit school to go to Europe to be trained by the best open-wheel drivers @ the time over there.

IMO one too many close call crashes & the death of her fried Dan Weldon caused her to back off, more than push down. Can't win that way.....Like I said IMO.

You watch NASCAR? You sure know about it.

When we lived in Huntersville, NC, we went up the freeway to a NASCAR area. Jimmy Johnson had one of his cars, in the trailer, parked there. My BIL, whom is a major NASCAR fan, was visiting us at the time and took us there. There was, not sure if it’s still there, a big NASCAR store at a mall in Concord. Almost got a BassPro NASCAR racing jacket.

Use to watch the races quite a bit, but a number of the drivers we knew are now retired. Don’t watch as much anymore and aren’t into the segment racing they have now.

We have a NASCAR Wii game that I sometimes play (racing). I always have the Jimmy Johnson car.

I don't follow it like I did years back....too much BS.

I've always been more into motorcycles & open wheel cars.
