Nasty fires in Adelaide

We have nasty fires out of control and spreading because of the wind,it's in parts of the hills where there are many hobby farms with all sorts of animals, so far I believe only two homes have been lost and thank goodness no lives.
Many people have fled to the suburbs. When there is a crisis like this community centres open so people have some where to go out of danger. Just heard on radio the fire is heading towards golden grove which is a quite a big suburb.Expecting a cool change latter today but they may make the fire worse with strong winds forecast for winds 90 km hour.
We don't have family in areas affected but know people who live in the area

Latest from SBS. A lot of settlements are threatened and homes are being lost.

3 Jan 2015 - 8:30 AM UPDATED 24 MINS AGO

An out-of-control bushfire in South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges is travelling in an erratic manner and burning freely towards townships.
The Sampson Flat scrub fire, near One Tree Hill, Crouch Hill, Millbrook Reservoir, Mount Gawler, Devils Gully and Bare Hill, is threatening lives and homes, the Country Fire Service says.

The CFS says the fire is burning towards Golden Grove, Upper Hermitage, Break Neck Hill, Kersbrook Township, One Tree Hill Township, Little Para Reservoir, Chain of Ponds and the townships of Inglewood, Houghton, Cudlee Creek, Lower Hermitage, Forreston, Gumeracha, Lobethal, Mount Torrens, Charleston, Williamstown, Birdwood, Woodside, Lenswood and Mt Pleasant.

"Take shelter before the fire arrives as radiant heat can kill you well before the flames reach you," the CFS said.

Winds of up to 110km/h were expected to accelerate the bushfire, endangering nearby communities.
Homes that are actively defended and prepared to the highest level may provide safety.

The situation in Victoria and Tasmania is not much better. The southeast part of the continent is about to go up in flames.
Brace yourself Kadee and start preparing for the bush fire appeals.

Thanks for posting that info of where the fires are burning, I'm not sure yet how to do that with iPad.

Yes the fire appeals will start, but it also gives the scammers an excuse to try to scam people
We are 200km away but will still get some smoke, it's a great pity many of the areas mentioned have or had very nice, very old mature trees, which I believe are falling accross roads making it difficult for traveling on the roads to get out, many are trying to move animals on narrow winding roads

We need to remember that the animal societies will have a lot of work because of these fires. Perhaps we could save some of our donation money for WIRES or the RSPCA.

Money can also be donated organisations like the CWA and other on-the-spot groups like Outback Patrol but they would not be tax deductible. The advantage is that the money can be freely spent on whatever need is evident without reference to the government regulations.

I agree it's hard to think of the poor suffering animals either wild or pets, The area has koalas, as well as many beautiful birds as well as other wildlife. The community has been wonderfull offering to take people's horses and dogs/cats and offering accomodation for people but that's a typical Aussie

I hope the fires don't get too out of control, wishing the best for the people and animals affected. We've had many wildfires where I live too, luckily none close to our home...fire is such a scary and deadly thing.

Good to see you are safe where you live Kadee46, we are just 10 kilometers from where the fire started near One Tree Hill, (where we once had our horse ajisted), and can see the smoke from the fires from the front of our house, there has been some thunderstorms in the area and the temperature has dropped slightly where we are, my heart goes out to all the fire fighters involved fighting these fires 2 volunteer firefighters sadly have lost there homes trying to save others homes.
Just announced on News that 5 homes have been burnt down, and could be more.

Stay safe Nan thinking of all involved, we know people who live at kersbrook.
I didn't realise you live in Adelaide, before shifting here we lived in Andrews Farm, Hubby ( there's that word again) had a motor bike and rode the roads affected by the fires I went along at times and admired the beautifull trees in the areas .
