That speech is actually used to train auctioneers, to help them develop and perfect their chant.National Butter Day brought to my mind this tongue twister from 1899. Has anyone else encountered it? There are a number of variations.
Betty Botter bought a bit of butter;
“But,” she said, “this butter’s bitter!
If I put it in my batter
It will make my batter bitter.
But a bit o’ better butter
Will make my batter better.”
Then she bought a bit o’ butter
Better than the bitter butter,
Made her bitter batter better.
So ’twas better Betty Botter
Bought a bit o’ better butter.
WOW! usually by this time of year (holidays coming), butter prices have dropped almost everywhere. i found it at Lidl for $2/lb... you had to buy 2 lbs. shoprite is still just a few cents under $4.Butter here in Canada is now $7.19 and that is not a typo.
One store has it on sale today for $4.49.....there will be a stampede! And I'll be leading the line.
