National Butter Day - November 17th

National Butter Day brought to my mind this tongue twister from 1899. Has anyone else encountered it? There are a number of variations.

Betty Botter bought a bit of butter;
“But,” she said, “this butter’s bitter!
If I put it in my batter
It will make my batter bitter.
But a bit o’ better butter
Will make my batter better.”

Then she bought a bit o’ butter
Better than the bitter butter,
Made her bitter batter better.
So ’twas better Betty Botter
Bought a bit o’ better butter.

Land O'Lakes butter $6.49 lb at Kroger or $4.79 for the Kroger brand. Wow. I bought 4 lbs (holiday baking, donchano) at Aldi a few weeks ago for $2.85 lb. Don't know how much it is now.

Was a time when I was eating a pound a week on my own if not more. “Running out of butter is like running out of air” I once posted on Facebook. I know because when I went on a dairy free diet we no longer needed to buy butter but once a month at the most. Now, I am eating it again, but sparingly.

I still have a pound plus one stick of store brand butter in the freezer. One stick in the butter dish. These are from when butter was under $4.00.

Got another bottle of olive oil and have been starting to use that in place of butter in some ways. Like frying eggs and making a roux. I hit a sale on Colavita 34 oz bottle for $9.95! I never fry at high heat or deep-fry, so olive oil works for me.

I have read for a few months now, that olive oil and most other oils will become scarce this winter.

That speech is actually used to train auctioneers, to help them develop and perfect their chant.

Butter here in Canada is now $7.19 and that is not a typo.

One store has it on sale today for $4.49.....there will be a stampede! And I'll be leading the line.
WOW! usually by this time of year (holidays coming), butter prices have dropped almost everywhere. i found it at Lidl for $2/lb... you had to buy 2 lbs. shoprite is still just a few cents under $4.
