National Punch Day - September 20th

The punch I can remember drinking was never terribly elaborate with fruit floating in it, but was rather basic, brewed from a mix sold out of store freezer cases and concocted for things like school parties. The teacher or someone who was relatively sanitary would dip you a small paper cup of it out of a large bowl. You learned to ration your drink and consumed it sparingly, as there was barely enough to go around, and you dared not ask for seconds…

…then there was Punchy, the Hawaiian Punch guy, who modeled assaultive behavior for an earlier generation by asking “How about a nice Hawaiian Punch?” before slugging a stereotypic cartoon tourist. It was a different time, and this marketing technique apparently worked…
