as a child, I loved Swanson's TV dinners especially chicken
a couple of years ago{before the price skyrocketed} bought another one, didn't taste the same except for the chicken

I used to enjoy them once in a blue moon.

I knew an older woman who started eating TV dinners for convenience. She experienced swollen ankles and other symptoms. Turned out the TV dinners contained too much salt!

When I was a kid, it was like a special treat to have those for dinner. They still look tasty in those pictures. Funny, I thought they were great. Now, all grown up, I find them awful!! I do enjoy Bob Evans mashed potatos and mac n cheese. I wil pick those up once in a while if I am crunched for time or not feeling well. They are way too expensive so I prefer to make my own.

We (d/h, me&2 kids)
always had dinners/supper together every night..I cooked.
that we sat around the dinner table and talked about "the day" we had.
When d/h worked 4pm-12..kids thought "it was a big treat" to have TV dinner
they picked out...and were able to eat & watch in front of the TV.

@GAlady..how you brought back memories.

We never had them..when I was a kid..my mom cooked EVERY night.

@Jace What a quaint notion...cooking every night for a family meal! LOL I did, too. My mother didn't, though, because starting at about age 8, I did the cooking and woe to me if it wasn't ready when she got home from work at 5:30.

I only got to eat TV dinners when babysitting a cousin. They were such a treat!

Nothing to do with TV dinners……at a young age, i too, think at 8 or 9, I did the cooking….both parents worked.

I can well remember when TV dinners came out in the 1950’s as little aluminum trays with separate compartments for the different types of food. As a kid, I thought that this was pretty cool, kind of a space-age thing. The “meatloaf” and “salisbury steak” ones were my favorite then, although the adult me finds the portion size inadequate and the meals generally unsatisfying.

I differentiate “TV dinners” with their distinctive tray compartments from the larger frozen food family. Some frozen foods like Stouffer’s offer larger portion size and I find better quality. It’s far removed from a home-cooked meal, but is a convenience food ready to eat and fast to prepare in a microwave…
