National T V Dinner Day- September 10th

A few years ago I found an "antique" aluminum TV dinner tray in good shape in the fence line when we were cleaning some of it out. I've always wondered how long it had been there. I kept it to show the kids, but husband said to toss it. Funny, somehow after I showed it to them it did disappear, but no one knew anything about what happened too it .

I remember that I was excited about TV dinners as a kid when they first came out as it seemed to be a futuristic, space-age thing. Swanson and Banquet seemed to be the big brands of them here. The portion size I always found to be minimal, however…just a few forkfuls in the smaller side compartments, and the food itself unmemorable…

While classic TV dinners are fewer in number now, I think that they kind of paved the way for other frozen food offerings, some of which now combine a main dish with a side vegetable or noodle…

I think it was eating the frozen peas in the meals that got me to eat peas other ways too. Does any one remember the lasagna TV dinners? I don't remember if they were Swanson or Banquet, but Mom hogged them all & no one else got them, LOL.

Swanson was the best in my opinion. I have not seen that brand in years.

I also recall a tuna pot pie but I don't know who made it . It was not on market long at all.
