Ned kelly

Ned was a highly intelligent and complex man. He was an outlaw and a horse thief but his entire family was the subject of persecution from the police for being Irish and as convict stock. As outlaws go, he was a man of principle, never doing anything to hurt members of the public but he had an almost pathological hatred for the police. The only murders he committed (or plotted) were against them and at Stringy Bark Creek he and his men were ambushed and they were fighting for their lives.

At the siege of Glenrowan, where he was finally captured, he exhibited courage worthy of a decorated soldier.

He wrote a long letter (Jerilderie letter) in which he outlined his complaints against the police and his desire for reform and justice. It is an amazing document for that time.
