Neighbor keeps parking a commercial box truck in front of my house

@RambleTamble, why would you complain to the police or the trucking company, possibly getting one of these young people in trouble with an employer, without first knocking on the door and politely requesting that the truck not be parked in front of your house.

Have these people behaved in any way that would make you consider them a threat? If not, for Pete's sake, just talk to them!

I've watched every episode of "Fear Thy Neighbors," so I would say nothing, no matter how sweetly.
However, I would not be happy about it.

As I sit here now at my computer, I look out over our street. Nice houses with pretty green lawns and decorative shrubs and flowers.
Every house has an attached three car garage and there are no more than two adults in any of the houses except our family of three adults.

So why do they all have to fill their driveways with trucks and cars and park overflow vehicles onto the street? Why am I looking at over turned garbage bins in front of four of the houses, when the weekly pick-up was 5 days ago? Why are the squirrel-nibbled jack o' lanterns still out?

Soon the inflatable Santas will make an appearance, and, after the first few days, will be lying like murder victims all over the yards.

Wouldn't bother me at all. There's ugly raggedy vehicles of all sizes, even semis parked in front other peoples homes and my building all the time. Mixed right in with new luxury cars. People here just mind their own business and get along.

You live in my road obviously...lol....

Having a drug dealer live opposite is actually not all that much trouble. My MIL lived in a suburban street where cars would pull up on the other side of the road and walk down the drive only to come back down less than five minutes later and drive away. Apparently, the signal to potential customers was which way the venetian blinds were angled. Vertical - no drugs today; horizontal - open for business.

One day detectives knocked on MILs door and asked permission to watch the house from her front bedroom. They collected evidence and shortly after the boys were arrested and charged. They disappeared for a while.

Back to the subject at hand: a large truck, or something like a caravan or big boat on a trailer, can make it very difficult to see oncoming vehicles when you are backing out of your driveway. Perhaps if you are thinking of talking to the people across the street you might mention your nervousness about backing out.

This is why I like HOAs or similar.

Obviously the OP is irritated by the obstruction and loss of his view, I get that. It doesn't matter if the truck is legally parked to the OP, it's a change he doesn't like.

Personally I probably would never call the police, I see no reason to make trouble for others (unless they deserve it). First thing is to simply ask the new neighbor to park the truck elsewhere, seems silly to stew on this and become resentful of neighbors who may be good people.

Now if you ask they move it and their response is hostile then you take off the gloves, but if they're nice about it but there's really no other convenient place to park it you're going to have to live with it...or move.

Until disproved, I presume the best of everyone. In my experience, very few seek to be unpleasant or difficult, especially if they aren't put on the defense.

If I were in the OPs position, I'd bring over a generous plate of brownies or cookies (homemade or bakery) to welcome them to the neighborhood (or wish them happy holidays), and while chatting, ask if the person who uses the truck would mind parking it elsewhere because, as C50 said, it spoils the view.

@RambleTamble could potentially wind up with neighbors who think he's a nice guy and will go a bit out of their way to accommodate him, or neighbors who think he's a jerk and escalate to provoking him while remaining within the letter of the law.

I don't think I'll be doing that. 🤣

This morning, the truck is parked across the street, so all is relatively well.

The problem I have with it parked in front of my house is, I put a lot of effort into keeping my yard looking decent, but it looks like sh*t with that frickin' truck parked in front of it. It's just plain inconsiderate.
