St. Louis police chief defends fatal shooting by officers

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The police chief on Thursday unapologetically defended the fatal shooting of a black 18-year-old who was killed by two white officers in a confrontation that drew protesters and unrest back to the streets.

Mansur Ball-Bey, who police said had a handgun, was shot as officers raided a home in a violence-plagued part of north St. Louis. Within an hour of Wednesday's shooting, more than 100 people converged on the scene, taunting officers and decrying the use of deadly force.

They should just build a high wall around the town and eliminate the police department then, if they don't want police to bother them. Shut them off from the civilized world and see how long they last.
 
It's beyond difficult for law enforcement officials to do their jobs with all of this unrest. When people behave with violence, what are police supposed to do?
 

This is going to get messy. Suspect shot in the back per autopsy. The initial report admitted the suspect was running with a weapon so if the suspect turned to fire and decided to run again the officer was probably already in the act of pulling the trigger. But a mob won't want to hear that.

And several miles away a 9 year old was shot and killed in a bedroom and yet no outrage or protests.

Cops have the toughest job you can get in these times. Many just wait for one of these events to go to the streets and rob, loot and burn. Thankfully we do have guys who are willing to do that job or what would your chances be in todays world.
 
What I can't understand is the willingness to stand up for and riot on behalf of someone who is behaving in a criminal way. And yet those same people rioting are more than willing to cast aspersions on the cops if they don't investigate when they are mugged or when their home is broken into or if their kid is killed by someone else who's committing a crime. Add one more reason why I would never consider becoming a cop if I had it to do all over again.

I sure feel for those people who own the store in the photo above. Life sure isn't fair is it? Maybe what the rioting idiots need is for business to just move out of their neighbourhoods. Make em travel to go grocery shopping or whatever. Would serve them right I think.

Certainly, rioters are rarely professional people, or even middle class, IMO. However, your second statement implies the rioters do so in their own neighborhood. Not always the case, maybe rarely the case. Even an idiot will not often disparage those he deals with in everyday life.

When rioting occurred in my hometown, 1951, this taking place one block from our house, we saw many out of state license plates, cars parked, while hooliganism was being committed. We sat on our front steps and watched streams of interlopers on foot, curious, trouble-makers, young, old, tramping up and down the street. Finally, the National Guard was called out.
