New AM Radio Bill

You got weather on your Apple phone, no matter where you are.
The guy (Smiling Jack) doesn't sit alone in a shed of an AM tower
with much but B.S. with his other good foolery and lies. People don't
Show up on Friday night to play their 45 RPM's anymore. Your 60 years out of it.
Your cell phones aren't any good if the towers are knocked out ... no towers - no service.

The AM radio was important for me & my family for news & weather in 2008 when Hurricane Ike went through Ohio. I still listen to it for local news in the car.

We had lost our power for 5 days which meant no TV for news. Other areas was out longer then we was. Landline phones went down for some, so they had no way to use them unless they had a cell. However, a few cell towers went out because they had damage so that resulted in no coverage.

AM is still important as others have already said here. I hope I don't have to rely on it like before, but I want it there if I need it.
And you can still listen to it in your home. You weren’t in your car during the hurricane, right?

Cell phones work with internet and internet can be Satellite too along with underground. If things sound like a RR train passing by you need to lock into / under the Stairway in the basement. If the power is out & checking the sump pump, water coming up prep to evacuate to high place.

Throughout the years of 1920 to 1950, good AM radios were everywhere, offering a reliable way to access the airwaves. Today, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find a radio that offers AM signals, without compromising on performance.

As long as you have 12 /volt for the Car radio you have AM- FM- Satellite Radio. and Cell connection to it / internet. Saya 4 amp hour lithium with battery jumper wires. Most Car jumpers have connections for uSB etc. Most people have computer power jumpers for bad weather / disasters to keep internet connected for hours. Of course they husband that power usage for minutes at a time if needed.

That Sunday I listened to the radio in the house, but I was expecting one of two things that would have had me on the road listening in the car about the high wind (no rain) event Ike created.

I was still working in law enforcement (civilian) & wasn't going to be surprised if I was ordered in to the district to work if more manpower was needed. The other thing was my husband & I still had our elderly parents living across the county & if something had happened to their houses, we would have needed to respond. Luckily, neither one lost power or had damage.

As a side note, we could still see a lot of travelers on the interstate from our house driving in the winds. If I had been one of them, I'd have the local AM on to find out what was going on. Wouldn't matter if I was familiar with the area or not.

Being the youngest of eight children, for a time I slept in my parents room. My dad had a transistor radio he kept under his pillow and listened to some radio show out of Boston. It was talk and it would put me to back to sleep for f I woke up.
I think that's why I always liked talk radio and listened on AM for years. It's soothing to me. Art Bell.......🌙

I've been a fan of AM radio all my life. When I was a kid i was into CB radio. Was cool to go out to dad's 77 Ranchero on Saturday morning and listen to all the Mexican CBers because of waves bouncing.

Used to be the only way to listen to Rock music here was to tune into AM. Some good times there. Me and my Grandpa used to listen to Cubs games on AM, as I got older I would listen to Bears games there too. Notice how AM reception got worse between 1980-ish and 2000 or so. I found radios that performed better on AM, still a few around. I still have one, it bothers me that automakers, and later on the aftermarket car stereo crowd turned their back on AM reception ability.

My opinion is they want to charge several dollars a month for satellite radio. More politics, etc.
They complain about Global Warming, yet keep punching holes in our atmosphere sending satellites up. For tv, radio, etc.
It's funny how for the price of a console tv, antenna and rotator we had good tv with maybe four channels, now we pay silly prices for many channels and nothing worth watching. Like I've said before, we need to turn back 50 or so years. Just my opinion though.
