Barnicle.jpgThis is for offenders with 5 or more violations at the University of Houston. The charge to have it removed? $920.00. It replaces the boot and allows the towers to tow from either end. One would think one parking violation would be enough.
 

That is hooey! City impound lots cost a fortune, just another way of raising revenue-blooddsucking rascals.
 

They started using the boot to collect parking fines from the 10,000 scofflaws with multiple parking violations where I live a couple of years ago.

The company that was contracted to perform the service worked so hard that they ran short of boots and created a huge public relations nightmare for the city so the city quietly asked them to back off.

It seems to be the same with things like expired tags, lapsed insurance, expired safety inspections, etc... A number of police cruisers have been equipped with license plate readers that can detect violations but no real effort is made at enforcement.

I can't for the life of me understand why we put laws on the books if we have no intention of enforcing them. The honest people obey the laws and pay the fines if they make a mistake but the scofflaws seem to be exempt from the rules.
 
If you expect to win the battle, you must fight with the weapon that works.

From personal experience: I know how parking works around a university with a large student body. Many students come with a sense of entitlement. Mom and Dad taught them they were special and and rules only apply to ordinary people.
 
All I know is this: When I was driving junkers and having frequent breakdowns, I'd push it off the road then hitch a ride home...

I had to wait for friends with a pickup to get off work, back to scene of breakdown-hey the car's gone!
Never left overnight, never in a no parking zone, never an obstruction...

If I'd had the money, I'd have called a wrecker, you think. No, I had to pay money to the city coffers
I'll go alone with two unpaid parking tickets; however, realize it is a revenue producing for municipalities
 
Call me soft hearted but I don't think parking violators should get the death penalty. It is aggravating when some pile up violations, But when it comes down to crimes against humanity, parking violations is way down the list. Moderate fines are appropriate, even booting. But I think exorbitant fines for parking violations are ridiculous. I don't think people should have to face financial ruin because they parked in the wrong place.
I think some get carried away with fines and such, and parking violations get perceived as the Crime of the century.
 
I like watching "Parking wars" on tv. I am surprised at the people that think signs and basic laws do not apply to them. Sometimes it takes high fines and booting fines for people to do what is right in the first place. I know my daughter got a fine for parking in the wrong place at University of Houston on her first day of school. She had to pay it herself and she learned to get there earlier or to walk there. I refused to pay it for her. Welcome to the real world. You are just getting started! She learned a lesson that day.
 
People who park wherever they feel like, are selfish, inconsiderate slobs. And when they do it repeatedly, they need an expensive message sent to them; it's the only way they'll change.
Years ago, a woman parked in front of my driveway. She didn't see that I was outside behind my security gate & was watching her. I walked over to her & said, "Ma'am, you're blocking my driveway." She said, "I won't be long." I said, "You're car won't be here when you get back; I'm calling a tow truck now." She got in her car, swearing up a storm & moved it.
I'll be she parks in handicapped spaces, too.
