New Medication

About three weeks ago my doctor put me on a new medication called Ozempic for my type two diabetes. I have been feeling ill especially my stomach from the get go. It has helped lower my blood glucose levels but I do not think the side effects are worth it. I thought after a few weeks the side effects would have eased up but that has not been the case. I emailed my doctor this morning to let him know my thoughts and asked him for options. Anyone else here have experience with Ozempic? If so how did it work for you?
 

Not me personally, but someone I worked with used it with the same outcome as you are having. She had really bad diarrhea. The doctor stopped that medication and tried her on something else, also weekly, with a time out in between. She had some initial side effects with the second medication, but very mild and they soon went away.

I'm sure your doctor will come up with a solution for you. Hopefully he/she will get back to you soon.

He said it made a dramatic difference to his A1C. With very few side affects.
 
Nausea is not good. Your glucose is lower because your body is slowing down due to the meds. Get ahold of your doctor and discuss alternatives.
 

What are the possible side effects of Ozempic®?​

Ozempic® may cause serious side effects, including:

  • inflammation of your pancreas (pancreatitis). Stop using Ozempic® and call your health care provider right away if you have severe pain in your stomach area (abdomen) that will not go away, with or without vomiting. You may feel the pain from your abdomen to your back.
  • changes in vision. Tell your health care provider if you have changes in vision during treatment with Ozempic®.
  • low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Your risk for getting low blood sugar may be higher if you use Ozempic® with another medicine that can cause low blood sugar, such as a sulfonylurea or insulin. Signs and symptoms of low blood sugar may include: dizziness or Iightheadedness, blurred vision, anxiety, irritability or mood changes, sweating, slurred speech, hunger, confusion or drowsiness, shakiness, weakness, headache, fast heartbeat, and feeling jittery.
  • kidney problems (kidney failure). In people who have kidney problems, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting may cause a loss of fluids (dehydration), which may cause kidney problems to get worse. It is important for you to drink fluids to help reduce your chance of dehydration.
  • serious allergic reactions. Stop using Ozempic® and get medical help right away if you have any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat; problems breathing or swallowing; severe rash or itching; fainting or feeling dizzy; or very rapid heartbeat.
  • gallbladder problems. Gallbladder problems have happened in some people who take Ozempic®. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you get symptoms which may include: pain in your upper stomach (abdomen), fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), or clay-colored stools.
The most common side effects of Ozempic® may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach (abdominal) pain, and constipation.

No it was added to the Metformin I take. My A1C was slowly trending upwards without any change in my lifestyle. Ozempric is also supposed to help with weight loss. I could stand to lose about ten pounds.
 
I have been on Ozempic for a little over a year now. No side effects at all. I have lost 24 pounds in the year that I`ve been on it. Very slow weight loss but I like that. My A1C has gone from 7.0 to 5.5. It has also allowed me to slowly reduce my insulin dosage to half what it was.
 
I tried Ozempic at the first of the year for several months, along with metformin. No side affects that I remember, very little impact on my A1C, so I just quit taking it.
 
I spoke with my Doctor and I am going to wait a week before I make a decision. I also take Metformin. Have been for over ten years. I also use a insulin pump. It has brought my glucose levels down and the amount of insulin I need. It also curbs my appetite. I like that about it but it just makes me feel terrible. It could be reacting with other meds that I take. If it does not get better in a week I am going to try Exenatide ER. It is also supposed to help with weight loss.
