You are a remarkle woman, because of your long term memory. Because of my medical knowledge, I am assisting a woman that I knew back when I was in my career path, whose mother died of Altzheimers, and she is scared to death she will have the same fate. She initially asked me to pray for her, and help her. I have eased her mind some by providing her with information about a new blood test, that shows if you have beta amyloid plaque in your brain. I just can imagine what she is going through. This is a mission I continue to provide, to help others, even at my age.Sparty said the “ Greatest “ generation and indeed it was.
I seem to get along well with seniors of any age but then again-
I sure remember the Blackouts we had when I was little because of WW 2. Every neighborhood ( I lived in a city then) had a 'patrol person' who would check to see if anyone in the neighborhood had any lights on, during an air raid alert and once he banged on our front door to tell my father he could see a light from the second floor.
It was a light in a small radio so my father turned the radio off.
In school we had air raid tests and had to crouch under our desks.
I remember vividly the day the War was over. Neighbors were dancing in the streets and banging pots and pans and anything that made noise. My father had said he would buy a car when the war ended.
My brother and I thought he was going to buy the car the very next daybut after many weeks ( maybe months) he finally bought a car- it had to be cranked up to start it. The Ice man came every few days to put fresh ice in a pan under our "ice box", using a horse and wagon, which is also how our milk got delivered. Food was rationed during the war with some sort of stamps that Americans got and the government sent anyone who requested them, free seeds to start a Liberty garden. My grandfather had a big Liberty garden and fed many neighbors from it.
I also recall my father bursting in the front door after work, with the Newspaper, after the war ,saying to my mother, "Harry cursed again!" He meant President Truman and Truman's cursing was often front page news.
Odd what we can remember decades ago but we can forget what we ate for dinner yesterday!
Lara, that was so nice to read, it is my mission in life to make people feel good about themselves. Lara, do you see that sailboat in my picture, that is my sailboat on the Great Lakes. Want to go sailing?I've enjoyed reading all the comments in your thread here
Sounds like you'll fit right in. I find the age mix is a good thing.
Conversations here fun and informative for all.
Since I know you like laughter...

I looked at your picture closely, bird in hand, are you a birder?I meant to mention your stunning avatar...and what a beautiful boat! Where I now live on the east coast there are many nearby deserted little islands, a couple of which have wild horses that are willing to share an afternoon with visitors. They can often be spotted from the mainland.
Sailboats venture over there to catch the sunset and then dock at restaurants.
Where does mid Atlantic coast lie?I looked at your picture closely, bird in hand, are you a birder?
Spent some time in NC, but not the coast, Henderson and Ashville area on way to Florida. I sent those hugs, because of a comment on a thread, “ wanting real love” and feeling alone. Even at my age, I wanted you to have both of those for you.Not a birder but love the peaceful birds in my area.
I'm in NC...Emerald Isle
I heard that it NEVER gets cold in Alaska. Is that true?Welcome, sparty60, from Alaska

On Halloween night how do you know whether it is a real polar bear at your door or just a kid dressed up like one?You can't fool me, Robb. I know when I'm being kidded. Happy Halloween, and many more to come.
Thank you Sparty. That was very sweet. I hope you find what you're looking for. As for me, I just come to the Forums here for fun and friendships. I'm unfamiliar about the thread you mentioned "wanting real love". I've never seen that thread here and I've never received any "hugs" for me on a thread from you....maybe you left that for someone else. Navigating a new forum can be confusing. Hang in there and take it slow.Spent some time in NC, but not the coast, Henderson and Ashville area on way to Florida. Nice fall pics, Ruthanne, not sure if I thanked you for your welcome, but, THANKS. I am slowly navigating this forum, as a newbie. I saw a thread of yours discussing Altzheimers. I wanted you to know that I have a medical background encompassing up to date current treatments and future treatments of many conditions in medicine. It is a mission of mine in advocacy to provide accurate information to those not knowledgeable. I only reach out if someone is seriously seeking current medical testing.
And when you consider that seniors face some challenges in today's world, seems to me we can be helpful to each other. Because we come from so many diverse backgrounds (countries/cultures/types of families) and living situations, we cab help each other keep mentally active---learning new things. As Seniors we don't want to practice age-ism ourselves. We get to interact with Seniors of all ages. We all have something to share. It's a Win-Win!
Well said, that is exactly the reason I am on this forum, to help all ages of members, if they want, to share the medical knowledge of over 45+ years in the medical field. I also like to have fun and make members have a smile, and a feel good moment. And when you consider that seniors face some challenges in today's world, seems to me we can be helpful to each other. Those of us over 75 can probably give younger ones examples of the pros and cons of various choices: Living alone, in 'Assisted Living' housing, or with family (not as common any more). By talking with people in various situations, and considering what they list as pros and cons of their situations (keeping in mind the pro/con labels might be reversed for others) might help someone figure out what's best for them.
How do you read another members profile?Got the profile done, great instructions
