How do you spend New Year’s Eve, do you party and celebrate with family and friends, stay at home and quietly contemplate what is coming your way in 2019 or just go to bed as usual ? :cheers1:

In preparation for the New Year, I try to make sure that all of my debts/bills are paid so I can have a fresh start in the new year.

I also make sure to take out the trash before midnight.

I have a few snacks and a drink then go to bed more or less on schedule.

We will be going out to a dance ,we won’t be dancing much due to hubs still not fully recovered from surgery he had in November but can still enjoy the music ,company and laughter
The strongest thing we drink there is black coffee but everyone enjoys the night

I haven't been out on NYE for a few years, instead we go out for the evening with friends either the night before, or 2 nights after... , and it's a much nicer experience, with no crowds..our wedding anniversary is soon after NY so we combine a celebration of the 2. Occasionally we go abroad for New years, but we find a more atmospheric experience here in the UK

Like Aunt Bea..I like to have everything ship shape in the house to ensure a clean start to the next year!!, but otherwise New years eve will be a normal evening indoors...

We'll be staying home.

It's been many moons since I've seen a new year come in but somehow it always seems to arrive just fine without me staying up till midnight.

Its my birthday and I will be staying home probably cooking my black eyed peas for the next day. Could not pay me to be on the roads that night here in Houston. We will have lunch somewhere to celebrate my birthday and then home to get ready for the next days special food.

nothing but will go out during the day because I am alone and this is a couple's night.
When I was young, this was an important night for me.
The senior center charges 45. for a catered dinner and dancing in a
unfurnished room with plain tables. And they have it during the day!
Midnight is at 2:00 pm! Haha.

Since I started ballroom dancing back in 2004, I have often gone to one of the many New Year's eve dances around town. It's a fun night wit, people I know, a little drinking and a LOT of dancing! Several of the dances are held in the ballrooms/convention rooms of one of our local hotels so folks can spend the night there if they imbibe too much.

This year one of the things I gave Ron for Christmas was a two day stay at an airbnb about an hour away....."Tuscany in Tennessee" complete with catered authentic italian fare, fire place, fire pit, hot tub, grilling out if we want to, all nestled in an out of the way converted barn/cabin in the woods. That's how we'll spend New Years Eve this year, probably in the hot tub sharing a bottle of wine! :D

We spend it quietly at home, and toast the New Year in while watching the ball drop on television.

Once upon a time, we would take the subway (free on New Year's Eve) to a club downtown and dance. Then, when our daughter was younger, we'd drop her and her friends off to watch the entertainers at City Hall .. then grab pizza after we picked them up after midnight.

When myself & my friends were more 'flexible' :) I used to enjoy what ever we put together . But that all ended a few years back. So now,...I have an adult beverage or 3 , toast friends that have past, then bed.

We just go to bed as usual, but I'll wake around midnight when the neighbors start blowing off fireworks.

The idea is.... to have as much fun with the idea of celebrating the New Year, as we can. As we age, we adapt, and modify our plans, somewhat, but fun should still take center stage. If we have to celebrate alone, then let's do it in style....with a smile! Don't "drop the ball" before it's time!:eek:nthego: Happy New Year!

I've never been a partier, one drink and that's enough, and I'm basically a loner so never went out to bars or dances etc. Now that I'm old I have also lost most of my hearing (chronic masteoiditis since I was 5). Plus, it's dangerous out there with all the drunks loose. I enjoy having a special meal, have a glass of wine, cozy wearing my pj's and my cats doing their thing, watch until the ball drops on TV and then go to bed. Like a couple of posters said, I try to start the new year with no debts by paying the current balance on my credit cards. And, the next day with markets and bank closed, it's a good time to make my year-end ''net financial worth'' analysis, it's become my tradition.

Speaking of senior moments (which we weren't, here, but were in another thread) I read this...twice as a matter of fact... as "Here's to all the people who will be spending New Years Eve at home in their PJ's with their pants." :aargh:

I wondered, until I read it a third time, if this was A Thing people did on New Years Eve, and I'd somehow missed the memo!

I do the same thing on New Year's Day.

I also try to avoid spending any money for as many days into the new year as I can. It's just a silly game with the idea being that if the new year starts out inexpensively the pattern will continue throughout the year.
