What I have never seen here, from one of the gun-lovers on this forum (or anyplace else!) is a reason why any civilian should own an assault weapon in the first place. Those weapons seem to be largely responsible for these mass shootings. But what possible reason is there for a non-military, non-police civilian to have one? They are not used for hunting, and even for those people who are convinced that someone may be breaking into their home (which is very, very unlikely), a regular pistol is usually enough for protection. You would have to have an army, or a large, armed mob breaking in, and in that case, your assault rifle might kill a few of them, but you'd probably be outgunned anyway by the mob. And come on, when does that ever happen?
So, in this brainwashed country, any teenager, disturbed person, or whatever, can easily buy one of those things, for any reason or no reason. And that may answer your question, Holly. Guns may be owned by civilians in other countries, but I haven't heard of any other country being infected by the social, political, almost "religious" movement that gun-worship has become among a dangerous segment of our country. And I don't think assault rifles are available to the general public anywhere else. Of course, someone could go out with an ordinary gun and shoot someone also, but they are not able to slaughter a whole classroom of children, a whole chapel of worshippers, or a whole market of grocery shoppers in a few seconds.
If it continues, it may result in the end of this country as we know it.
