This was discussed on a recent NPR program here with some scepticism as to what it means for prices. And if prices go up, people will eat someplace else, just like they shop for the cheapest price...

I wish restaurants had to pay the same wages as other businesses.

Tipping is a way for restaurants to get higher prices for a meal without the customers realizing it. I really hate places that add the tip to the meal ticket. I never go back to such places. I don't tip by percentage either.

Yes, I done a Thread about this. Only thing is, $35k is sort of "over-the-top" as far as a "living wage" goes. I never made that high of wage ever! If I would have, there would have been no end to the "partying" I could have done. LOL

Years ago, $35k was an outstanding wage, for some anyway.

I have spent a fair amount of time in New Zealand and Australia and have always appreciated that tipping is not customary.

Here they made most of the waiters/waitresses part time. They have no insurance to speak of. I give them a 20% tip.
