No Matter the Cost, I Won’t Give Up ….

No matter what it costs, I’ve realized there are certain items I won’t scrimp on.

Feeling thrifty, I bought Miracle Whip instead of Hellman’s Mayo. Won’t make that mistake again. I couldn’t even eat anything I made with the Miracle Whip. I’ll use less Hellman’s in the salad if I really want to be cost conscious.

Coffee has to be a good brand that I like. Let’s start the day right and do without in between.

My husband has V8 every day. Again, no substitute.

He thinks Heinz ketchup is the only one worth eating. (Little does he know, so don’t tell him it may not be what I use in cooking)

Toilet paper and quality tissues. Nothing to dispute here.

Same here, I never cared for any brands of mayo or salad dressing until I discovered Hellman's, now its the only brand I'll buy even though its now about 5.00 a jar. Coffee only my brand, and yes its gone way up but I will not go without unless it comes down to making a choice of coffee or food.

I also like "Best Foods" mayo; (It's called "Hellman's" depending on where you live.)
BUT, yesterday, they were out of it. I decided to try "Kraft Real Mayo." I LOVE IT. It's as good or better.

The first thing that popped in my mind was Boar's Head meats from my stores deli. I have tried the store brands deli meat and not even close in comparison to my taste buds.

Back in my smoking days all I ever bought were Marlboro Reds. Every other brand seemed inferior yet most were cheaper. There is no question that I was a sucker to the marketing machine by Phillip Morris at the time.

I did find a great substitute for my regular bath tissue, but so did everyone else so it's luck when I can find it. But this is temporary. Soon as the price on my regular is down a bit, it'll be my only again.

I won't give up on fresh fruits and vegetables. Thankfully, I live in an agricultural area so this time of year I buy a lot and can or freeze them so I have their deliciousness in the cold winter months.
I do buy frozen veggies, but I'm very near an agricultural area, too. I'm extremely fond of blackberries. Early in the season, there's no difference in sweetness between the cheaper small farm's berries and the big, more expensive one's, so early season I buy cheap, but approaching fall, only the big farm still produces large, sweet berries. Worth the extra few bucks.

Coffee.🤔

Sometimes I get the best value by spending a little bit more and using a little bit less. Two examples are Dawn and Tide.

“Economy is a distributive virtue, and consists not in saving but selection. Parsimony requires no providence, no sagacity, no powers of combination, no comparison, no judgment.” . Edmund Burke

I'm lucky I have wild blackberries growing all around me. They have to be cut back or they will over take my yard. I freeze a lot of them, make jams and blackberry syrup etc. They are not large but are sweet.

I have lived alone all my life and have been able to save substantially. Cutting back is not my thing. I see it and I want or need it, I buy it. That's not to say I am not frugal to some degree. I don't buy a new car every year and I don't change wardrobes every year like some of my friends do.
I do share and donate to those organizations that do good work in lower income areas. I live in Alexandria, Virginia and I see people driving new Mercedes, Tesla's and Maserati's. The man three doors up from me has a Lamborghini and his neighbor drives a Porsche that looks like a Formula One racing car. I don't take it to that level, but I do drive a pretty nice Lexus SUV, which I haven't liked since I bought it last year and plan on trading it in the fall.

I don't eat much mayo but it has to be Hellmans. Love Folgers coffee. But these days I just have a cup of Hills Bros. cappuchino fat free coffee and put a shot of kahula in it. I do like Bays English muffins. They are much better than Thomas's but they cost a few cents more.

Just remembered Butter. Fortunately I don’t use much. I buy it on sale and freeze it. Right now it’s $7 a pound.
I do the same.. It's now an astonishing price, but I buy it on sale and freeze it.. I hate margarine..

We don't have Miracle whip here, and I don't like the genetic versions of Hellmans.. so I always buy that.. but in fairness it's not gone up in price like it has in the USA...
I barely ever use ketchup..hubs was the one for that.. but it still has to be Heinz... and V8 was a favourite of his and it had to be the real deal..

I always buy frozen veggies.. they are picked and frozen within 2 hours .so all the vitamins and minerals are contained... fresh lies around for days..losing their goodness fast!!

I dislike generic loo roll... I bought it when there was little choice during TP gate.. but you end up having to use a roll per day because it's so thin...

Even during my lean years (and the word lean should be a word of the day), the internet was and is my must have.

- As far as food stuffs, I want to have Heinz ketchup and Land O' Lakes butter and Hellman's Mayo. As to coffee, I've used cheap generic instants for decades, but wouldn't want to go for the bottom rung brands. But, if I had too, I'd give those up in the order presented.

Having faced broad financial swings most of my life, I've learned to be pretty adaptable. I can live without all of those things - except of course, the internet!

Good for you, if you can afford it do it! I find myself being more selective in my scrimping, if it matters much I buy what I like best.
My Cuban cigars, I smoke no more than two a year, but still..
That's great! I am a much heavier smoker, probably 10 cigars a year. Sure wish we could get Cubans here. Next month I am headed your way for fishing out of Port Hardy, will be sure and get a few.
