No Refusal Weekend at Texas DUI Checkpoints

I wouldn't want anyone poking me with needles, certainly would want it forced, it would have to be voluntary. Like Falcon says, better just not to drink and drive, that's the smart thing to do anyway.

Under normal circumstances, if you've been drinking and stopped, ALWAYS insist upon a blood test !

By the time they get you to a hospital or wherever they're going to take the blood and find a techie to draw your
blood....there will be a lot less alcohol in your system. Ergo; a lower count.

Only in Texas.

... for now.

Pretty soon we'll be seeing Judge Dredd standing by the side of the road at these checkpoints, backed up by a half-dozen Bradleys and a variety of surface-to-air missiles.

These kind of low tolerance, no revusal weekends have been going on in Texas for sometime now, and I have to say, it has cut down on alcohol related driving accidents and deaths considerably. But in the last few years it has gotten worse because of the illegal immigrants that drink and drive, and then run from the police because they have no drivers licence or auto insurance. :tapfoot:

Let's hope it doesn't come to that

Well, I haven't really been following these scenarios because I don't drive, but I also realize that's sort of like the old "When they came for the Poles I said nothing because I wasn't Polish" routine.

The way I see it this is presumption of guilt. You're being pulled over at random, which means there is no evidence that you are drunk. Supposedly we are innocent until proven guilty, but this short-cuts the process.

I know it's for "the greater good", and having lost my sister to a drunk driver I'm all for getting them off the roads, but there's a greater cause here - our freedoms and liberties. It seems to be the trend of our overseers to slowly box us in, removing a small freedom here and there, and soon we won't even notice when they start taking the big ones away.
