No seeums

Tis the season here
90s in the day, 40s at night must be ideal
The cabin is rife with ‘em

Seems they’re knockin’ the boots in the day, and hatching in the early evening
The troublesome thing is, their bites hurt
Not hurt, hurt. But, irritating hurt.

Clapping at ‘em with my hands is almost futile
The bug zapper is most successful
But
I do believe their propagation is keeping pace
Horny little bastards

Here’s an up close pic of one;

There is a way to keep insects away from you.

Running a fan at high speed and swinging back and forth.(oscillation mode).

They don't like wind. And can't pick up the scent to zero in for a feast.

I'm allergic to blackflies. I don't even feel when they are biting and I swell up like a balloon.

This seems to be a banner year for these insects. A couple of weeks ago, I did a lot of yard work, and forgot to spray my pants and shoes with Deet, and the next day my legs and beltline looked like I had a minor case of measles, and itched like crazy. For the next couple of days, I had to rub all the bites with Chiggerex(5% Benzocaine) and Calamine Lotion to keep from scratching all day/night. This is pretty much an annual "benefit" of living in the countryside, and usually continues until the first hard freeze in the Fall.

Started my day off with a belly laugh....Thank You!

Years ago when we were camping in British Columbia, Canada, we were swarmed with no-seeums, very annoying and nearly impossible to control outdoors.

I used to camp in TX. and they were bad there, had the itches and redness all around the sock line.
Up here I haven't encountered any. :)

I've found that a spritz of rubbing alcohol will take away the sting and the itch if applied quickly. I use either 91% or 70% strength.

Permethrin works for me! I do a lot of hiking & backpacking; so, I treat a bandanna that goes around my neck and treat my wide brimmed Tilley hat. Noseeums come in "close"; but, Permethrin acts like an invisible shield keeping them 8" - 10" away from my face.

My late hubby was terribly allergic to them,he would get these huge,welt-like,red blotches all over him, they would itch like crazy and then hurt afterwards.

So I did a little investigating

turns out, these little guys are so small, they go right thru a normal screen
thus
tents have teeny tiny screens for that very reason
thought about covering our screens with that mesh

may do that

but for this evening, I just sprayed the screens with repellant

no more no seeums in the cabin
