Years ago, one of the Major League teams was doing their spring training at Disney's World of Sports stadium. One night, they were offering $5 tickets to see a pre-season game. I got one ticket for free and we planned to buy another one at the stadium. When we got there, they were handing out free tickets. No charge for parking, either.
The $5 ticket got you a game, a hot dog, a soda, a top-notch fireworks show and a really good and inspiring movie that was a tribute to sports heroes of the past. They also covered an inclined grassy area between the stands with really slick plastic and let kids slide down the hill all night. Yes, I'll admit it, my 12-year-old Inner Child made me slide down a couple of times.
Pretty good evening for nothing but the cost of gas to get there, huh?
Fast-forward to the first major league regular season game ever played at Disney. My brother-in-law was insistent that we go to this "historic" game. He paid, so I said yes. Tickets were $70 each. It cost over $20 each for a hotdog and a beer. The game was being played between the two "bottom" teams and they were "phoning it in", really lackluster. He got bored and we left after the third inning. I'm just glad he paid for everything or I'd have been really upset.
