Nobody told me there'd be days like this

What are some of those random arbitrary nasties that can ruin your day ( if you let it ).

When I go to start the car and discover the battery is dead (it was fine yesterday!) or one of my tires has gone flat. Even with AAA it's a very annoying disrruption, making me late for everything, that drives me nuts.

What does it for you?

It used to do the same to me chic, but recently I notice I just shrug my shoulders and change the wheel or whatever.
A whole string of nasties might still get me down though. I put it down to my enlightened acceptance epiphany, :cool1:but suspect its just growing old and not having the energy to complain to the heavens. :soangry:
 
I admit to being easily put off when faced with life's unexpected little tragedies. My solution has been to build a lot of redundancies into the way I do everyday things. Spare keys hidden in accessible places. A hundred dollar bill hidden in the trunk of my car. I actually carry two wallets, one in each back pocket. The wallets serve the double purpose of providing extra padding for those occasions when I fall on my ass.
 

I would think that most people learn VERY early in life that no matter how well you plan and organize, stuff happens. It's annoying, but you do what you need to do and try to fix the problem and move on. It shouldn't ruin your day.

I do get aggravated over those things, I think everyone does to some degree, but I don't let it ruin my whole day. What I do now is put things in perspective, I'm grateful if my battery dies in a safe place, where I can get a jump or in my driveway at home. Always have jumper cables in my vehicles. Same with flat tires, although having one can be annoying, I always think that I'm lucky it didn't happen while driving on the highway somewhere. Last time I had a flat, I was still working and pulled over on the street and changed it myself, glad I hadn't made it to the highway yet.
 
For me, it's stupid questions like, "Now that your whole family is gone, how do you keep going on?" DUH!!! Like there are choices in the matter. Sometimes I just want to say something like, "Bingo, iced coffee, and Minion jokes." But of course I don't say these things, and I try to hold on to my patience. :hide:
 
Life is full of "roadblocks" and there are "speed bumps" and there are "detours".

Speed bumps make you slow down and proceed cautiously until the way is smooth again.

Detours force you to find another way to do things; maybe it won't be a way you would have chosen but you find a way to make it work.

Roadblocks are harder....sometimes you have to back up a long way until you can get around the block; sometimes you have to sit a long time until you can proceed.

And then there is "the end of the road", the only thing you can't work around. The end of the road only comes once. Where you end up then depends on how you handled the speed bumps, the detours and the roadblocks.

Anyway, that's my theory and I'm sticking to it.
 
The thing that is most likely to spoil my day is the *anticipation* of something coming up, or worry about what could happen, not usually a particular event.

But that is even more stupid than letting an event spoil your day, isn't it? :shrug:

Perhaps, but a very common human failing. What goes on inside us is often more important than outside events.

Good replies everyone. Let me just say I don't allow anything to RUIN my day, but some nasties can make it more challenging to have a smooth pleasant day. I don't anticpiate trouble but try to be prepared however they don't allow you to buy a spare tire for the car anymore. You'd have to buy the whole wheel with the new tire attached and car trunks are no longer large enough to accomodate this.

I could buy a new Lexus which allows you to drive 50 miles on a flat but I can't afford one. Of course I could pass around the plate and everyone here could pitch in what they can afford. :D
 
In our almost 50 years of married life, we've encountered a few speed bumps along the way. Some have been difficult to negotiate, but we have done it and survived. Having all three of our kids home this weekend reminds us how blessed we are. Having 7 of our 8 grandkids in the house, running/shouting/bickering/disobeying parents/robbing contents of candy bowls to continue sugar highs... has been a joy.
Life is going to give us challenges along the way. With a "crowd" of kids and grandkids due to begin coming in on Thursday evening, Tuesday I noticed water running down into the basement from underneath one of our bathrooms. A 30+ year old toilet had cracked and decided to inundate the downstairs with nasty water. Wednesday morning I played 18 holes of golf, came home and removed the old toilet, drove to Home Depot and purchase new toilet with necessary mechanical accessories, installed the new toilet.... all done by 11:30 a.m. Now, all three toilets are new and, goodness knows, all have gotten a workout the past three days with the onslaught of kids and grandkids.
Any more, about the only thing that really infuriates me is a missed putt from inside 2 feet!!! :>)
