Not a day's illness in life

Are there really people who can say that and do you know anyone with such good health?

I'm afraid I absolutely can't say it of myself. I think someone very lucky indeed if they do not get any of the major degenerative conditions that humans are prone to. No matter how sensible I try to be, my body is in daily pain and I struggle. Arthritis is in my family and I have not escaped. I thank god for good medicines, painkillers, that enable me to function reasonably.

However, I am genuinely happy for those who live a long healthy life. What a blessing. I can think of one or two people I have known who never needed any medication or even a walking stick and lived into their 90s.

No, I cannot claim that I've had "not a day's illness in life," but I do not live with the pain of arthritis or conditions that impede mobility. I have a degree of peripheral neuropathy and walk / exercise to try and keep it at bay, but cannot foresee the long term consequences I may experience from it.

I am genuinely sorry for your pain, and thank you for posting a somber but welcome reminder to be thankful for our blessings.

My Father came pretty close. In the 40's he had a plastic eardrum fitted , first person to have it done ... but that wasn't an illness per se.... In the mid 60's he got Asian flu as it was called back then, and he was sick with it for a week or 2... but other than that, all of his life, he never suffered a day illness ..not one day.... ( the devil looked after his own ) and he always used to be concerned that because of that, he might suffer badly at the end of his life... and he did !

I spent a day and a half in a hospital in Florida. I stepped on a rattlesnake by mistake that was sunning itself. I guess you know what it did in response to my mistake. I was barefooted except for a pair of sandals. My right foot was swollen to almost the size of a football because of the venom.

Not a day's illness in life

My opinion: people who claim that are liars, delusional, or suffer with flawed memories. Nobody living in society gets through childhood (nevermind adulthood) without suffering through occasional colds, stomach viruses, and other nasties that go around.

I've had some surgeries, illnesses and physical problems throughout my 72 years, but am grateful my body is in overall good health (knock on wood). No chronic illnesses or serious aches and pains.

My uncle was like that, except for colds, I never knew him to be ill until he got prostate cancer at 86 years of age and died at 91. He refused treatments and still lasted 5 years after the cancer was found. He told me when he was about 75 that he never had a headache. I found that really hard to believe, but I wasn't going to doubt him.

I would believe that because to my knowledge up until my father had his strokes at 80.. he never had a headache...

In fact he had no tolerance for people who were ill..absolutely none... that included all of us his kids, and his wife...

I went on the annual copperhead roundup here in PA when I was in my late 20's and was bitten by one while putting it into my burlap bag. I had been on that roundup for about 5 years.

Copperheads aren't too poisonous and people rarely die from their bite, but their bite hurts really bad. Besides the antivenom, I was loaded up with antibiotics. The nurse told me the doctor was keeping an eye out for sepsis and that was why they were drawing my blood every eight hours. On the third day, I was feeling much better. The swelling went down, my BP came back to normal and also my breathing returned to normal.

I've had colds, and stomach aches, etc. as a child, 'excepted' normal illnesses, but (Essential Tremor) physical hand and head shaking and not knowing the reason for doing so?? And no one seems to care nor try to find out the reason why, so (alone) you spend your growing up years going through h-ll disguising your weirdness in any way you can to be accepted as 'normal'. But as an adult you lose your job due to shaking, or can't get one due to shaking. Hey! You're an alcoholic or druggie, don'tcha know? And as the years go by, you begin to shake full body. And so it does.

I got B ( benign) ET a few years ago... it has cleared up now..never knew what started it or why it stopped.. I only get it now if I've been gripping something tightly...for example heavy shopping bags, and then the temors last a few hours...

However there's quite a few treatment they can try, including Botox...

Medication & treatments

Glad your shaking stopped, hollydolly. :). No med helped me. Botox cannot stop head to toe shaking. Only sitting unmoving any body part will prevent the shaking. yes, heavy lifting, and doing any type of exercise will increase the degree of shaking.

That sounds awfully frightening, what is it? Essential tremors? I'm glad it's cleared up now.

tbh...it's like parkinson's disease...

the hands ( in my case)..and the rest of the body in other people's situation sometimes.. shake for no apparent reason. Doctors call it Benign essential tremors because they say it's not an illness .. rather it's a neurlogical symptm..of what they dodn't know... so they can only treat the symptom, and hope something works.

Aside from being stressful..it's also embarassing to have, because as Elsie said quite rightly said, there can be accusations of drunkeness etc... ...ad of course in life egenraly it makes things difficult like sing a pen or holding a fork.. etc

It started from nowhere ( in my case anyway).. lasted about 8 years and then stopped for no apparent reason...

My father died from parkinson's disease, and I remember being afraid that I had PD.. but the doctor assured me that BET.. altho' similar is not related to Parkinson's at all

That is scary, lasted a long time. I am glad it's stopped and was not Parkinson's ,- that is truly a cruel disease.

The mother of a friend of mine lived to be 100 years/4months. She was never sick in all those years. My friend said she thought she had a cold once, took an aspirin . That was it in all those years.

My friend said that in her waning months, she would just stare out the window , but when her children/g-kids etc would visit, she would smile, squeeze their hand . Then one day she just died. He and one of his brothers were there, he said he was grateful that none of the g/kids were there.

Her husband died from cancer @ age 63 .

I have had more ear aches than I care to remember as a kid. Many times I had the Flu and down for multiple weeks. Bad infection almost killed me in 2012. Colds galore, various breaks, contusions, and concussed on occasion. Tore up my knees playing football, but outside of some very minor arthritis on a cold day in one knee and/or a wrist, I'm in good shape. Searched family tree and found multiple direct ancestors living over 90 back to the 1500's. But Dad passed at 52 when I was a kid. Mom lived to 84. Cancer got them both. Non muffler Pall Malls and Chesterfields probably contributed to Dad's passing. Mom's Breast Cancer metastasized from a fall and broken leg. Previously it was in remission but caught like wildfire after the break.

The key is movement, sunlight, and letting your food be thy medicine. Despite having good cholesterol readings doctors push them daggum statins at me. I push back. Doctors are human beings. Most are little soldiers of AMA and Pharma. Wife has 6 regular scripts and 2 irregular scripts. I take none. Monitor your own sugar, oxygen, blood pressure and grow/raise your own food. Get in the country with lots of trees and fresh air. You might think I'm crazy but grounding works. Go barefooted sometimes. Take a regular sauna, for skin is your largest organ. Do whatever keeps you regular and drink plenty of clean fresh plain water!

I've tried those and many natural ways.
However, it's no good because I am deteriorating, my body has aged faster than it should and I know it is because of depression.
Some of us just do not have a strong constitution, I have never been strong.
