Notes from Pappy's diary

Today was a busy day in the Pappy household. Went for my MRI this morning and didn’t realize it would take 1/2 hour of pounding, thumping, banging and just making out of this world noises. It was open as I requested but it wasn’t comfortable at all laying there for so long.

I had a clicker thingy in my hand which would have stopped the procedure if needed. I felt like a contestant on Jeopardy. They also put on earmuffs and played 50s music for me. 40 or so years ago, they tried putting me in the little tube MRI and I clicked that clicker after about 2 minutes in there. Get me the hell outta here people
Anyway, should know results Monday when I see doctor again. Oh, and on the way home, I stopped and got my haircut.

“And that’s the way it is.”
Pappy Cronkite..
Pappy, I've had several MRI's... all closed. Years ago they used to give us headphones and we could have music to drown out the noise, we were even allowed to bring our own if we wanted.. but now.. no.. we're given a pair of Foam earplugs, and told to just get on with it. Last MRI for me was just a few months ago.

I can take a closed in MRI as long as it doesn't go on for a long time, by keeping my eyes shut so I don't see the 'coffin lid'' right in my face... and last time I had my MRI, I asked them how long it would be ,he said 15 minutes, so I thought..ok that's fine.. closed in coffin.... but he lied.. it was 45 minutes long...

Yesterday, Saturday, I had a terrible bout of, trying to say this delicately, diarrhea. Sick to my stomach too. Have no idea what brought this on as Thelma and I ate the same foods. Only thing I can think of is when I went to get my MRI last Wednesday, the place was packed with people. Who knows for sure?

Today is much better with just a little “hangover” from yesterday.
Monday, I go to doctor to discuss my MRI. Hope it is something he can help me with.

Okay, on a lighter note…my youngest son and DIL with be here on the 22nd and will spend 3 days with us. Jeff and Lori are gearing up for retirement but he has 2 more years to finish up with the NSA in Maryland. They have purchased a home in The Bluffs on Cape Fear near Wilmington, NC. It is a model home and will be held for 18 months until the kids retire. Can’t find photo right now but will send it when I find it.

Three rolls of toilet paper later, I bid you all a great day…Pappy

I can relate, as I've been going through a bout myself recently. Meds suspected.

Hope you feel much better, very soon!

Sunny start to our day here in Florida but 50% chance of rain later. Just finished a Jimmy Dean sausage and biscuit and now to enjoy my coffee and Senior Forum.

My MRI shows most of my trouble between L3 and L5. Bone spurs, two bulging discs, severe arthritis and nerve pinching. I was given two choices, shots or surgery. At my age, I’ll rule out surgery and try the shots. Of course this means seeing another doctor. :( Still trying to stay positive but it’s getting harder to keep a good outlook.

Have been watching the Jack Ryan series on tv. Into season 2 now and enjoying them. I stream them on Prime video. Am slowing dropping cable and going to stream all my tv. We also have Peacock, Paramount plus and Showtime. ABC and CBS have their own app to get our local news.

You all have a good day and thanks for reading my exciting adventures. :)

Well, the kids (in their 60s but we still call them kids) left at 6:30 this morning to fly back to Maryland. Had great fun and enjoyed every minute of their visit. My son fixed a few things around the house and Lori cleaned and washed until the house looks brand new. We also had that talk about what do we do when we can’t do for ourselves. So inspiring to know that they, my 3 kids, will make sure we are taken care of.

I am posting pictures of the model home they bought as soon as my son retires from NSA. I didn’t realize he’s been with them for 45 years when he retires in 18 months. It has a small apartment above the garage.

The case of the groaning toilet;
A couple of months ago, my toilet started making a terrible noise when flushed. It was embarrassing if we had company and was being used. I put a sign on the bathroom door..Please hold if possible. :sneaky:
Things I use to fix around here I just can’t do anymore. Frustrating as heck.

So last week, my son Jeff and his wife Lori came to visit and he wanted to see what the demon toilet was doing. So off to Lowe’s he went and got new parts to repair said toilet. He fixed it up in no time and it flushes so quiet now that I’m drinking tons of water just so I can use it more.

At the same time they were here, my grandson, his wife and my great granddaughter were at Disney World. Here’s a picture of Ava trying to look madder than Grouchy from the Seven Dwarfs.IMG_4743.jpeg

I Love this house!

Over the years, a few folks have inquired about our community here in Florida. Well, we now have a new web site set up and very good information of our little peace of heaven here. If you care to look it over, I have included the site to visit. If you have time, read our newsletter. Our HOA fees are $45 a month.

Friday was a painful day to the VA in Viera, FL. I had missed my last two appointments at the nail clinic. I have a bad case of ingrown toenails and he had to get down the edges to cut out the ingrown part. I’m sure a lot of you know how painful that can be. Much better this morning but still sore.

On a lighter note, we stopped and had lunch on the way home, hamburgers and coffee. Very good too.
The nights are getting cooler and the days not so humid. It was a terrible summer for heat this years. 90 degrees week after week followed by some nasty storms.

That’s about all the exciting news from the Pappy household today.

Well, here it is Thursday already. Fairly quiet week in the Pappy household. Thelma has PT for her ankle today a 3 pm and that’s all we have going the rest of the week. Next week will be busier as I am getting the car serviced on Wednesday and Friday is my 6th month eye appointment.

Anyone who has COPD knows what a flair-up means. This past week it was my turn for one. Got to the point I was getting prepared to go to hospital, but I have several ways to treat it at home so it did keep me from the emergency room. I’m breathing a little better today but can’t do very much around the house. Anyway, I’m grateful for the good days and am very fortunate to have lived this long.

So that’s about it in the Pappy house today..Have a positive day. Pappy

What a crazy week this has been.
Monday..wife eye doctor appointment.
Tuesday..wife ankle therapy appointment.
Wednesday..car serviced..
Thursday.. wife ankle PT..
Tomorrow.. me at eye doctor.

Ah yes, the wonderful golden years.
Other than that, it is a beautiful day here in Florida. Cool nights and warm days.
I have a brand new 3 wheel bike in my shed that I can’t use. It’s a 7 speed and I can’t figure out how to fix the derailer. The chain keeps coming off and I’m lost as to how to fix it. Have no way to take it to a shop as it won’t fit in my little car. Lesson learned..never buy a bike you have to put together for scratch. Buy one that’s ready to go.

That’s the way it is…Pappy

Maybe YouTube can help with an assembly video.

I had an online talk to my VA doctor this morning about my COPD getting worst. Once I explained what had been going on, he knew what the problem is. I have an infection in my lungs and he is starting me on antibiotics to fight this. I have to go to the VA later and pick up the drugs. Need to get this infection cleared up.

Yesterday, the wife and I went to the coffee shop. Coffee and Boston cream donuts yummy. Stopped at the scratch off machine and won $100 on a $20 ticket. A rarity for sure.

We have new neighbors across the street from us. The lady that lived there alone passed. She was 103 and took care of herself. Haven’t met them yet but they look to be friendly.

My daughter and SIL are going to Aruba for a week. They both deserve it because they are very hard workers. They buy fixer upper houses and resell them after they are fixed up like new.

That’s it for today. Have a great day. Pappy

Last couple of days have been dreary and wet. Still in the 80s during the day. Halloween is just around the corner. In the 24 years we have lived here, we’ve had one trick or treater. I guess the 55 and older parks are taboo for getting good candy. Actually, if my kids were young again, I don’t think I’d let them go to peoples houses. Rather go to a public affair for free candy and cider and donuts.

Taking my wife to a walk in clinic to have her ears cleaned of wax. She’s always had this problem and the store bought stuff doesn’t work on her. Without her hearing aids she is almost deaf.

When I start feeling better, I need to wash our windows. I ashamed of the way they look. Seats on my golf cart are getting moldy too. Vinegar and warm water usually takes care of this. I have gotten so far behind in my to do list since I’ve had this lung business. Antibiotics seem to be helping, thank God.

My Instacart order is on its way so I’ll sign off for now.
Have a great day…Pappy

Wow…the stuff that was in my wife’s ear was removed Friday. No wonder she was having trouble hearing. So glad we did this.

Had a rough night last night. Around. 3:30 am I woke up short of breath again. Went out to the kitchen, where I keep my nebulizer, and took a breathing treatment. This always seems to help quite a bit. Never did go back to bed, so I got caught up on my iPad and did some paid surveys.

Suns not
up yet, 6:50, and the wind has died down quite a lot. Last 5 days it’s been very windy and stormy.

Instacart was here exactly 9 am with our groceries. By 9:30, our weekly shopping was done. Great feeling. Right now, some kid with a hoodie is walking up and down in front of the house. Smile kid, you’re on candid camera.

Going to go make a coffee. Have a wonderful day…Pappy
