In another thread about the retired fireman, we agreed that we may be getting into a new normal with all the lunacy going on. After this story broke, it was just glossed over and treated as another, āOh well.ā Before that, a really supposed nice and professional journalist, Steve Scully was caught in a lie and now thatās nothing to make a fuss about. As a society, what once was taboo is becoming acceptable behavior. Although these stories are not serious offenses, both do undermine the confidence of the public, or at least, at one time it did. Have we become so benign to people behaving badly that we are willing to turn a blind eye?
Iām beginning to believe that all is fair in love and war. We can now get away with most anything. I was reading some police reports just last week and According to the Chicago Police report just released from October 1st, 71% of the murders committed in the second quarter of this year will remain unsolved.
I thought about this and wondered how I would feel if a close relative, like my son or daughter would be murdered and the case would go unsolved, so he or she would not receive justice. Iām not sure that I would be able to accept that.
