Yes, I dietary panel has recommended this to the Obama administration in an effort to reduce obesity. You must agree with me that this an absurd outrage. BTW, my favorite is a jelly doughnut, what is yours?

The Australian government is talking about the same thing, Recently we had a doughnut shop open excuse the spelling as I'm not sure how it's spelt called Krispy Creame and people camped outside the building all night to buy some :why:

DW Krispy kremes have been around in the Uk for years...they are delicious but they are almost pure fat and sugar. They cost a whopping lot more than a normal sugar donut...each krispy kreme costs about £1.30 each...I have no idea why they cost about 4 times as much as a normal jam/ring or iced donut..

They have only just opened a shop in Adelaide first time I have heard of them, but won't be trying them

We have Dunkin' Donuts that are a guilty treat, but not so guilty now that we don't have to worry about cholesterol anymore...:sentimental:

I have never heard of krispy kremes much less seen them.

Bee there's some independent Krispy kreme shops ( not too many ) but Tesco sells them as well...although they don't sell them at the bakery aisle oddly...they are in a chill cabinet of their own usually right next to the take away food..sandwiches, pies , bottled drinks, magazines etc.. Loads of Malls have a krispy kreme stand as well... lakeside has one..

After I posted I did a search and non of the Tesco's closest to me sell them, the closest is possibly Lakeside which I never visit.

As I previously posted I have already done a search and there isn't a Tesco close to me that sells them not even in the instore cabinets.

However, doughnuts pale when it comes to brownies, and these would be taxed, too, probably at a higher rate...

They can tax them if they like... I don't eat them.. or any sweets for that matter.. It's not that I'm a health fanatic... I simply do not have a sweet tooth and doughnuts do not appeal to me.. NOW... give me a a bag of potato chips and we're talkin'

I tried a few Krispy Kremes when they first came out in my area - like Dame said, they're food porn - hardcore.

WAY too much sugar. They actually hurt my teeth eating them.

But Que Sera, Sera - if people like them, let them eat them. Just don't ask me to give my tax dollars for their heart operations.

This reminds me of NYC's attempt to regulate soda and sugary drinks by limiting the sizes that are sold - stupid.

I remember when they came to the UK. All the expats were jumping up and down with joy! The last time I had one was before I moved here. I worked in an office with 3 other women and sometimes another staff member would bring in a dozen or two warm KK donuts. It was funny to watch everybody eat them. Our eyes would roll back in our heads. Mmmmmm

I don't find them edible after they've gotten cold. They are just coated in grease!

I don't like Dunkin Donuts nearly as much. They even had Dunkin Donuts in Thailand!

Do you have a link to this information? I'd be interested in getting more details, and I was unable to find anything when I tried to search for it.

On a side note, I'm not a sweets eater, so it wouldn't impact me at all.

The UK talks on and off about having a 'fat tax'. They want to make sugary and junk food so expensive that people won't buy them. I don't know what has happened to this idea as I haven't heard anything about it lately. I think it's a bad idea. Some poor people would give up some of the healthy food in order to afford the junk. Price would certainly never stop me from having occasional chocolate. Just like price would never have motivated to stop smoking. I had other reasons.

That's very true. One only has to look at the drug business - the illegal one - to see how price is never a consideration in getting one's favorite poisons.

I wonder how altruistic these proposed taxes really are - are they truly concerned about the population's health, or is it just another way to squeeze money out of the commoners?

Oh no, they aren't concerned about people's health per se. They are concerned about how obese people cost the NHS with diabetes, heart problems, and other issues.

And in the UK, or at least in Scotland, a doctor can write a prescription for gym membership if your weight is affecting your health or if you have other health issues.

Don't appear to sell them at the Tesco here in town, nearest store to stock them is about an hour away. Not that it matters as I don't like doughnuts. Give me savoury food any day.....

Actual sugar although not great for you is not the problem per say. It's the artificial sugars and additives like corn syrup. And preservatives in a lot of pre made stuff.

Too many times I threw left over crumbs out on the lawn for the birds. Some of the premade stuff with preservatives last for weeks. Imagine how long it might preserve the contents of a fat cell in a human body.
