Now Tom Brokaw

@StarSong

I don't think memories are poor. Yes, I know all too well the working environment was very different thru the early 1990s. Actually I remember it changing after the Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas hearings in 1991.

I remember watching "Mad Men" (set 1960 thru early 70s) - some of these situations brought back memories.

I also saw quite a bit of favoritism based on how attractive a woman was and/or if she was having a consentual affair with someone of authority - she got better raises, various perks, and was allowed to do less work. Others often were aware of what was going on, but felt powerless to do anything about it.

@applecruncher

You and I are on the same page with this and clearly had similar experiences in the workplace.

I hadn't considered that the Anita Hill testimony might have been a turning point, but you're probably right. When my husband and I told our kids that "Mad Men" was not much of an exaggeration regarding that era's treatment of women in general and most specifically in the workplace, they were shocked. While the show was both entertaining and very well done, the sexist aspects were often unpleasant to revisit.

As for the original point of this thread, I tend to believe that Tom Brokaw is not and was not a serial predator or harasser. Had he been, numerous women (and/or men) would be piling on with stories of their own by now. And we've seen with others who've been outed by the #MeToo movement, predatorss typically repeat their patterns of behavior.
