Well, they can be really helpful and sometimes you just need some reassurance.
The only time I called my insurance's 24-hour nurse line was when I woke up in the middle of the night having my first PVC attack. It's scary when you don't know what it is and you think your heart is skipping beats.
She was very reassuring and told me that she thought it was PVC's. She suggested that I not take a chance of it being something serious and suggested that I go to the emergency room. She also wanted to make sure I wasn't there alone and was going to call an ambulance for me which I didn't need as the Spousal Equivalent was there.
She also called the Emergency Room to make sure I had gotten there safely.
I really appreciated the assistance.
