NYE has come and gone - is everyone safe?

New Year's Eve celebrations around the world seem to have gone off without terrorists spoiling the party. The exception was Istanbul where an attack on a nightclub by a gunman killed 35 and wounded another 40.

I admit to being rather fearful of the potential for carnage this year but it seems that for the most part things proceeded in much the same way that they have always done.

Thank you to the police and security personnel who worked so hard to keep people safe.

That's very, very sad about Istanbul. I hope there is no more of it tonight or ever again really.
