In what is a first in the history of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), 52 States and three international organisations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the African Union (AU) and the Arab League, submitted written comments as well as oral presentations to a case.

The procedure concerns an advisory opinion requested from the ICJ in December 2022, before the current conflict, by the United Nations General Assembly on the “legal consequences arising from the policies and practices of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.”

Questions asked by the UN General Assembly

The two specific questions posed by the UN General Assembly to the ICJ are as follows:

“What are the legal consequences arising from the ongoing violation by Israel of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, from its prolonged occupation, settlement and annexation of the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including measures aimed at altering the demographic composition, character and status of the Holy City of Jerusalem, and from its adoption of related discriminatory legislation and measures?”

“How do the policies and practices of Israel affect the legal status of the occupation, and what are the legal consequences that arise for all States and the United Nations from this status?”

This recap provides a non-exhaustive overview of the points of view of the different speakers during the first three days of hearings (February 19-21). The remaining speakers will be presented after the hearings close on 26 February.

I am wondering which states/countries support Israel's actions?
Occupied Palestinian territories: first days of hearings at the ICJ

I watched a short this morning where Israeli Jewish and Israeli Palestinian politicians argued in the Knesset and naturally, the Israeli Jews were adamant that there would NEVER be a two state solution. Then I happened to catch a video of an Israeli choir of children, singing about the annihilation of everyone in Gaza. Last week, I listened to an ex-IDF soldier talking about how he was taught as a child, that Arabs would be their slaves.....

I think that pretty much sums up what so many Israeli's are planning/hoping for as the results of this conflict. Doesn't seem like there is much concern by a great number of the people as to 'legalities'.

I understand and respect your views. The timing of this song is expressing your support when 56 countries have raised concerns about the situation in Palestine. Can we talk about how this might be perceived by the world stage? How can we find a way to support Israel while also recognizing the suffering of the Palestinian people?

You mean the same Palestinians who teach in their schools that the Jew is the enemy of Allah and must be destroyed? Getting sick of your attempts; I guess I'll just go with the majority here and ignore them.

People all over the world wanted the suffering of the Ukrainian people to stop. It was/is horrible. We saw so many pictures of the damage and suffering.

Where is the cry for helping the Palestinians? The world seems to want this war to stop. The situation is becoming horrid.

I have been seeing this from the beginning. The wider world is not in favor of the continual bombing of Palestine. Too many causalities. Now it has come to the end of the month period for Israel to report on how they are complying with the ICJ's recommendations. What will they report? They have continued to destroy what is left of the country. Now this hearing is trying to stop this war immediately for humanitarian reasons. The war is getting bigger because nations are trying to stop the war. I know the reasoning behind "kill them all, because they might grow back", idea. That will be the way of Israel for the future. Madness.

The world is telling Israel to stop fighting. Now. Right? or Wrong? or Debatable?

It will cost every American $100, to send the new aid packages to Israel. I don't have that kind of expendable income. Maybe others do, and it is worth it. Don't we have a say in how our taxes are being spent? Or this is special because of Presidential power?
