Nice wish to have. But, for me I would not so much wish to be smarter than I am. What makes dolphins so attractive - their apparent affection for us.

Affection and smarts are two different things. The octopus is widely known to be smart, as well. Does that make the octopus attractive to us? Not so much. No, I think it is not the smarts that counts. It is more the affection that creates the connection that we appreciate. So, too, between humans. I had greatly intelligent professors in college who were really smart. But, those people who showed me their affection were the most important and valued by me.

Sort of like, which would you prefer, a smart pet that could figure out how to get out of the yard unseen? Or a pet that would stay home and give you great affection? Affections beats smarts, all the time for me.

I remember years ago reading a sci-fi story about aliens showing up on earth. The aliens say that earth is about to be destroyed and they are there on a rescue mission to save the most intelligent earth inhabitants. They have limited capacity as to the number of they can rescue and a huge globular uproar ensues about who gets to go.

"It should be MY people! We're the best!" "NO, MY PEOPLE! We're the smartest!" and so on.

The aliens scoop up all the dolphins and leave. Badda-bing.
