Oh! Oh! Canada!

Perhaps this is why South Park came up with their famous “Blame Canada” episode…

I don't know if I should laugh or cry but I find this story rather interesting. A government brings in a lot of immigrants. The immigrants don't like what the government is doing and they sue! I believe this is a preview of our future!

Sadly...it's the type of thing that's happening here in the UK.. not quite got as far as that .yet... but given the opportunity, I have no doubt that will be next..

I cannot see what the fuss is about. Surely there is some space in the school that is free at lunch break where the students can pray in peace. The alternative is to do it somewhere outdoors in the playground or on the sports field.

Drainville has said that he can’t ban prayer altogether and that students who want to pray should do so discreetly and silently.

Of course he cannot ban prayer. It is a human right to be able to worship according to custom. Muslim prayer requires a lot of movement and the only way to be discreet is to have some privacy. To refuse to provide it is tantamount to religious suppression.

The concept of the separation of church and state was a valid concern when it was first included in the US constitution, and is still a valid concern today, particularly with the push by the religious right to shove their beliefs down our throats. I have no objections to people praying, I do it myself in my own way, on my own time.

Years ago there was a boy that used to come to school with a dagger which he got suspended for as it is considered a dangerous weapon. The parents sued and took it to court stating that it’s part of their religious attire and won. They boy continued taking these daggers to school.

Public schools are not places of worship. I understand most deities are able to hear prayers from outside the building. And, if my religion requires me to sacrifice a chicken every day, what school room do I use?
