I wonder who sees concerts of once popular bands when all the original members are gone.
The Beach Boys have one original member. Now Four Tops have none left and still touring this year.
Do you go to hear the music, regrdless who is playing? Seems that it is a tribute band then. Personally, I value
seeing the original guys, not musicians hired to play. Concerts are partly on UTube but it isn't the same
Maybe it should be illegal to keep the same name with no original members. Misleading.

I don't like tribute bands.... there's loads go on in towns near here... the have to be almost identical to the original before I'll go and see them live, after all now with youtube et al.. w can see the original bands in the comfort of our own homes

The Beach Boys only have ONE member alive? I believe Brian Wilson is still alive Carl and Dennis are dead. I didn't know about the rest. To answer the question would I go to see reunion tours of old rock bands if most of the original members are dead? No. I won't even go if most of them are alive because it's just too depressing and will remind me how old I am! I let BF do that. He goes to everything. And enjoys it. :)

I would have problems going even if most of the original members were still in the band. The Eagles played here a few months ago but I had no interest because I don't consider The Eagles complete without Glen Frey . Same thing when Springsteen came to town. Once Clarence Clemons passed I lost interest in seeing Springsteen and the E Street Band in concert. I heard that they were both great concerts but in my mind I would have felt something was missing if I had attended either of those concerts.

It depends how truthful the band are being…there are multi artist sixties and seventies shows around where the links to the band are tenuous.
For Instance,Hermans Hermits have their original drummer. The Tremeloes feature four members ā€˜ who played with the Tremeloes at various times’.
Of course if the band never broke up and just kept changing members then it’s questionable if it’s the same band. But it happens.
Tribute bands who sell out theatres are a better bet for me.
Australian Pink Floyd,ELO Again , Bjorn Again( ABBA) and The Bootleg Beatles are brilliant.
As are the Queen approved Queen Extravaganza.
But if you go to see a tribute band you know what you are getting.
Not always the case with bands that were around in the sixties and seventies.

I don't think it matters for the sound of music, if Ringo plays the drums, or if Orvil Scrumps does, as long as they both play well. Live music always sounds and feels better than recorded. If you want to hear your favorite music, live, like you used to hear it, even though the original band is in the home, why not?

NO. I have been there and tried that and it's just no fun. The music was good, but it wasn't the same without the original members.

I enjoy tribute bands regularly if tickets are free or cheap. But may not buy some expensive venue ticket if a touring band is missing key musicians. In any case, am not one of the majority that at concerts prefer to sit in some seat as close to a band as they can afford to view musicians playing.

Yeah 2 beach boys are in the group, Love and Stamos-- and about 8 others. On UTube they
sound like a tribute band on my PC. Too much guitar, not enough voice. I didn't go alone though it was
free 25 miles away. Jay and the Americans have 2 left, "Jay" changes every few years. Oldies concert, not recommended.
A lot of tribute bands near me. One type tries to impersonate the originals, the other merely plays their songs,
their own renditions, so-so, and they vary. Those I prefer not to see.`
Aunt Bea, you are back! I saw Mona Lisa at Louve, and yes, might as well see a print.

I heard Ringo play in person, with his band and it makes a big difference.

In the 70's and 80's, I went to literally tons of oldies and doo wop concerts in New York City and later in Syracuse. Back then, all the original members would come back and re-unite and participate in a concert. They were all older than me, so most of them are gone now, or are in nursing homes like where I work. Seeing the Four Tops with all new members is just as stupid as seeing the Drifters with all new members. Unknown singers singing the hits that were recorded by other people.

Those original members of rock and roll bands and doo wop groups were born in the 30's and 40's. They were in their 20's in the 50's and 60's. So their all long gone into retirement or have passed on.

Thats us.... but will pass on seeing the original band if its one of them money grubbing shows.... DW was going to surprise me with KISS farewell tickets.... nearly $600 for nose bleed seat.... I think not....
I agree. I’ve literally been to hundreds of concerts and loved every one of them . We generally paid $12 to $25 per ticket. Some were more, some were less. I think we paid $35 to see Pink Floyd. I’m glad I saw concerts when I did cause now I can stand crowds AND can’t afford it.
