For the record I am age 81 and am a close follower of Aubrey de Grey who wrote "Ending Aging". This book explains how aging is a collection of survivable illnesses. I recommend the book to all who are not intimidated by medical and biological terminology if you are interested in a future where it is possible to live longer without the appearance and inconvenience of aging. The book stresses that we seniors now have missed that boat but with our amazing health progress today's babies may realize that long future. Steroids, in Mr. de Grey's opinion, are not a long term answer. His solution is a healthy body that maintains natural levels of these powerful substances by programmed cellular maintenance.

More later! Now I will read what you have written.

Qwester ... gee, welcome aboard. We've been waiting for more advice on immortality.
I often wonder how much better off a friend of mine would been had she taken all that good supplement and nutrition advice and a few hot shots of magic potions. She lived on fat and sugar and died of breast cancer. At 104!!

She played, and won, competition level outdoor Bowls until she was 94! and lived alone and did her own housework and gardening until she was 102! Makes you wonder what the hell she was on doesn't it?

Welcome! :) I'm no fan of any synthetic hormone therapy. Our friend, in his sixties, was just diagnosed with liver cancer, after he started getting testosterone shots and maintenance gels from his doctor for energy and virility around a year ago. Sometimes fooling with mother nature will come back to bite you, and bite hard. Cherish the body you were born with, and embrace the natural road of aging, some are denied of that privilege. Sometimes we waste the precious minutes and days of our present on foolish things, never being satisfied with what we have.

Welcome, qwester!

Allow me to indulge in a bit of whimsey ...

Based upon more than 10 years of gerontological research, Stop Breathing Now offers an entirely new paradigm of health for today's aging population. Through a series of simple exercises Dr. Aubrey de Grey shows how eternal health and happiness can be achieved in only 20 non-breathing minutes a day.

Dr Aub looks to be a credible source of info on life's secrets. Sounds a good plan to me. Hell, I'm convinced! A combination of the two should be foolproof!
Hallelujah! and show me da shots while I'm holding my breath!

Humph. And I thought the secret was wine, women, (in my case, men), & song....cigs and whiskey, and dancing 'til dawn.

Too late for me, then.....:eek:nthego:

He's 5 years younger than me, so he MUST know all the secrets of the Universe!

To all, thanks for the humorous and informative welcomes. I am relatively new to this type of socializing so I have some learning to do. Apologies in advance for any slights. I look forward to individual interactions with each of you and many others I am sure. My main goal in life now is to leave each interlude with everyone smiling or, even better, laughing. Remember, if you walk a mile in the other guys shoes he is a mile away and you have his shoes.

Well said and taken Qwester. We're a cynical old bunch with a wicked sense of humour to go with it. Settle in and post often. (... and remember to look for the humous meaning to a lot of what we post, irony is 'in', big time here.)

Oh, you hadn't noticed then?

Hi Qwester,

I'm new here today as well. Interesting stuff. I guess it isn't like the "brain freeze" thing on Golden Girls. I think I'll put my efforts into time-travel. I would rather go back in time, then live on too long into the future.
