OMG he did it again!

I posted a couple days ago about a guy who backed his car into our mailbox and drove off. Well, he’s just hit the neighbor’s vintage truck so hard it moved the truck four feet! And then he drove off! The neighbor saw him, spoke to him, and the driver ignored him and left! Police were called. Dude needs to have his license pulled. Bless his heart, he’s got lots of problems, but he’s not fit to be on the road.

What really bothers me is not just that he hit the truck, but that he moved the truck 4 feet. It sounds like this is a residential street, so minor bumps and scrapes probably will happen. But shoving a truck four feet indicates driving at a high rate of speed- way too fast for a lane with pedestrians & especially kids.
Personal issues aren't an excuse, and DUI may be the cause.

He’s 90, I think. And get this: he backed into the truck! He must have just stood on the accelerator when he backed out of his driveway. The logistics are just so strange. No way did he have to back up that far. His car is in his garage now and I can see the back is smashed in. Good grief!

In a similar situation my very elderly uncle pushed harder on the accelerator because he thought he'd moved his foot over to the brake. And he kept it floored thinking the brakes weren't responding.

He was so upset about the damage he caused, and so thankful he didn't hurt anyone, he cried, poor ol' guy. Plus it really scared him. Next day, he voluntarily turned in his drivers license. But he should have done it a few years earlier, when his wife told him to.

It's sad that he doesn't remember these things. It's just a matter of time before he hits someone or hurts himself, unfortunately.....if you know your neighbors, maybe get someone to contact the son....or drop a note in his mailbox. Photos would greatly help at this point (proof).

Update: Police suspended his license, but he went out in the car later! He claims to not remember hitting either the truck or my mailbox. I know he has a son in the neighborhood. He needs to take Dad’s keys away.
The son probably won't take his dad's key away because he knows he might have to drive his dad around if they can't afford to hire a driver.
