On-line grocery ordering

I've never used online grocery ordering (except for coffee). Even that is taking extra time now.
Today, the news reported that it's difficult now & people should arrange to pick it up themselves at a pre-arranged location. Doesn't that defeat the purpose?

Well, I do pickup from two stores. You drive up to the place at the store, call and tell them that you are there, and they bring it out and put it in your trunk. You don't have to get out of the car or have any human interaction if you don't want to.

No matter how you do it, somebody else, probably a lot of somebodies, has touched your groceries before you, if that's what you are objecting to. No way to get around that.

I don't do delivery; I do pickup, but it is much the same. The two stores I use have a place on the online form to indicate whether they can do substitutions and I can reject the substitution when I pick up the order if I don't want whatever they've substituted. One of the stores is Wal-Mart and the other is Smiths, which is owned by Kroger.

I use both, on days when i am more mobile I like pickup. But when sciatica kicks in, I use delivery.

Either way, [latest order for example] I ordered chicken breast, two packages..one to cook, one to freeze...they had none. Hopefully, I'll get some this coming Saturday. I received my peppers, onions to make the dish with last week, I hope they stay fresh.

I ordered ours Friday and it’s due today. I hope it’s a better order than last time, because my last order was missing so many items.
Same thing happened to me when using Aldi's. I only got half my order. Now they don't have ANY delivery windows open. I wanted to get some veggies but I'll wait. I still have some canned goods and so I can wait but am not fond of eating canned goods. Guess we got to do what we have to.

Order came in, and only missing 4 items. The trouble with ordering online is it’s easy to forget some things you need and getting the type of meat you want is confusing. I’m glad I paid Instacart a month worth of deliveries. One payment and you can order as many times as you need. Minimum order must be $30.

I just got a delivery window from Aldi's--April 20th==that's 12 days away. I know I'll be adding to the order as I will run out of things meanwhile.

Be careful and pay attention. I've been using Walmart pick up before this coronavirus. Before it became so hard to get a time slot I would order in the afternoon and pick them up the next morning since I always get uip early.
So when I found a slot for 7 to 8 O'clock I reserved that slot and ordered my groceries. I arrived Just after 7 and was waiting when a Girl came out and asked my name. She looked on her phone and couldn't find me. Finally she discovered that my time was 7 PM not 7AM. So I went back last night and got my order.

I have no desire to use online grocery delivery
There is a 7/11 convience store 2 blocks from my apt building, across street is local co-op store
Whenever a friend calls&asks if I need to go to big grocery store,I say 'Yes,.lately I've gone twice/month.I'm thankful for their generous offer

Ruthanne, keep trying,,, one might even open up tomorrow or next day.

I never thought of ordering groceries online til last spring when weather conditions were awful, checked into it but never got around to placing an order. I don't know if it's because of c.virus or some other reason, but the grocery store made some changes between then and now: they put in a $30. minimum purchase requirement, AND nearly doubled the delivery charge. :(

So I decided to see what Amazon has- "fresh" isn't available here, so I ordered a few items from the groceries section yesterday (although somebody swiped the Chef-BoyR-Dee from my cart before "checkout"!), and it says the items won't be delivered til at least May 9th! Ordered a few more items today, and they're set to be delivered near the end of May!
For anyone who orders there regularly, is delivery always so slow, or are they backlogged because of more people ordering online?
