One biggest change from early days

This is a little more abstract than most of the answers to this thread, but one "change" that has my head spinning is that our language is apparently doing away with genders. Not only is the language getting fuzzy, the whole concept of people being one gender or another seems to be disappearing!

When reading my favorite advice column in the paper, I can never tell whether a letter writer is male, female, or "neither." He/she/they are talking about his/her/their wife or husband, which can be either gender. Even if the letter starts out "My husband," that does not mean it's being written by a woman, of course. It's impossible to tell. Although most people (thankfully) are usually not this vague when speaking about someone, the media certainly are. I
don't know if it's a natural outcome of the LGBTQ movement or dictated by the editorial policy of the paper, but it's driving me nuts. I'm old-fashioned enough to still like to have a gender to identify a person with.

This is not a political or religious matter with me, it's just a matter of having a clear idea of who/what a person is. There is enough confusion in life, why add more?
