One can wear too much perfume?

Agree 100%. Some lady wears a massive amount to the gym the past 3 weeks at the same time I train. After the 3rd splitting headache I spoke w her training partner and asked him to relay the fact that many are negatively affected by the strong odors, especially when training. He understood and was good w asking her to refrain. Hopefully he followed through.

The whole idea of permeating the air indoors w someones personal choice of scent is selfish, imo.

Almost overcome with a nauseating aroma of Perfume. Surely she accidentally spilt the bottle on herself?

I absolutely agree. I wear perfume..good quality perfume, not sweet sickly cheap stuff, and I always am afraid I might have put too much on... I hope I don't... but just the other day a woman walked past me holding hands with her O/H... and she absolutely reeked of cheap perfume, sickly sweet made me gag... and I just though right then and there ..how is HE not telling her this is absolutely over the top.....I felt sick after just a few seconds, god help the people who had to be in her company for hours or days..

I'm allergic to most perfumes, and worst is the woman who takes a bath in the stuff! Several doctors offices actually ask people not to wear perfumes in the office. BTW men's aftershave is just more perfume. I remember being on a plane back then I was a smoker but couldn't smoke on the plane. However there was a woman who had bathed in perfume, my eyes watered , nose too, then my throat got sore. When I was finally at my destination, I told the stewardess that I couldn't smoke but that woman tried to kill me with her perfume!

Years ago I had a male co-worker who reeked the cologne Tommy.

It was the middle of winter & we shared a small office. Everyone else in the section was able to avoid him. My sinus cavities felt raw & I had headaches. When he left, I'd open up the window & air everything out along with the heat. By the time the odor was gone, he'd come back. I finally had a talk with him.

I told him he needed to stop using his cologne because it was making me ill. He said it was his wife's favorite cologne for men & she bought it for him. She also sprayed his dress shirts with it before she ironed them. Not only was Tommy bad smelling, the heat made it smell worse.

I told him he need to put it on before he walked in the door because I wasn't going to smell it anymore. Told him I was sorry it was her favorite, but it wasn't mine. They had two little kids, so I couldn't believe they had to smell that odoriferous odor too.

I discovered a lovely Dior perfume in cologne form many years ago. It was a very light scent and I would spray a little on my throat every day after my bath. I never had any complaints but occasionally I would be asked what was the lovely fragrance that I was wearing.

After I left work I only used the perfume when going out somewhere special. I don't wear any perfume now and what is left in the bottle has definitely gone off. I would like to buy a new bottle but it seems to be obsolete now.

@Warrigal I used to wear Victoria from Victoria's Secret & it was discontinued. Another favorite was Aire by Giorgio, a very light scent. I looked around for long time before I found Romance by Ralph Lauren which was close to Victoria & have been buying it. Haven't found anything near Aire . Now I only wear perfume when we go somewhere.

I was told by a lady at the perfume counter in my 20's to spray it in the air & walk into it. That way you don't get too much on. I've done that ever since. Taught my husband to do the same thing.

I know that your body chemistry can play a part on how something smells on you. What may smell nice on a friend may not be nice on you. I always ask for several samples before I buy something new so I can try it out for a few days first. That's why I won't buy my husband something without him trying it first.

I hate when people go overboard and douse themselves in cologne/perfume/aftershave, especially, as some have pointed out, when you're stuck in an enclosed space like an airplane or an elevator. I was in the supermarket a couple of weeks ago, and I turned into an aisle that positively reeked of a strong perfume. I was honestly concerned that the scent would attach it to my hair or clothes.

I do wear cologne myself, but I try to be very careful. I spritz a bit into the air and then walk through it. I'm pretty certain either my friends or one of my daughters would let me know if I ever overdo it.

My body deodorant is lavender scented and my body lotion also. Thats enough scent. It’s a subtle scent that’s not over powering. When I was younger I was told I wore too much Chanel no. 5. Since then I’m very careful about the scents I wear.

My husband says his father used to wear so much aftershave that he could taste it in the bread he made for sandwiches.

I just read the other day from a top perfumer that , that old adage about spraying into the air and walking into it, is just a fallacy and wastes a lot of perfume...
I have various perfumes so they don't start to smell stale on my skin... or that people who hate one don't have to smell it all the time, because I ring the changes..
Currently
I have Paco Rabanne Lady Million... Aromatics Elixer by Estee Lauder.... and the one I wear for special occasions ( the royal family favourite) and very expensive is Penhaligons Empressa.... and Cousin Flora..

You brought a long forgotten memory to me. 🤭 When my daughter was little, we always got groceries on Saturday mornings. And we usually saw the same Saturday morning shoppers in there. One was a lady like you described from the cafe. Well ya know how loud kids can be... one week my daughter (3 or 4) said much too loudly, "Mama, stinky is in the next row again!" :ROFLMAO:

I can't be anywhere near it. I have to leave immediately. All of those chemicals affect me as well as the odor from household products. I have left a store without my groceries because of someone's perfume.
I had a friend years ago..since died.. who had emphysema... and she literally couldn't breathe if there was even the slightest perfume around.. she couldn't have polishes used in her house or perfumed soaps.. no-one could wear perfume or aftershave near her

My ex husband DD's father has COPD.. and when he comes here to visit, I sometimes forget I have the Wax melt burner on.. and he immediately asks for it to be turned off...

I used to think it was just older women who wore too much perfume, and sometimes that is true. At the same time I've encountered men who must have drenched themselves in cologne. I really don't think either situation is appealing at all, and just try to move to a place upwind.

apart from the people I mentioned with Breathing conditions..I don't know a single person who has perfume allergies...
Well, in the college that I worked at we had a number of employees and students who could not handle perfume. And in our hospitals, we are not allowed to wear perfume either because of allergies. Actually, I should have said, hollydolly, I'm one of those allergic to perfume as I get numbness in my face along with feeling nauseated as soon as I am close to someone wearing perfume. I was not allergic until 2012 whereby I was diagnosed with something call silent migraines. Perfume is one of the triggers.
