I'll never forget seeing my first California brown tarantula. It was skittering its way across the pool deck and I thought it was a crab. I couldn't figure how a crab got that far from the beach, so I got up to take a closer look. (Runs screaming....)

When it comes to amorous spider couplings, the female of the species is more deadly than the male. Much more, and the male is usually the one who ends up on the menu of the wedding feast.

No eight-legged spider ever scared me as much as the 8-legged tick that I found in my hair! The spider isn't likely to bite - the ticks do nothing else but bite and spread diseases!
