Opinions for hiring a neighbor as a cleaning lady?

For several reasons , mostly arthritic in nature, I am considering hiring a cleaning lady, for just two-three times p/month. I happen to have a neighbor that is a cleaning lady.

Do you think it wise to hire a neighbor?.....or a bad idea?....and why?

Not asking anyone to make my decisions, just curious.

For me, it wouldn't make a difference if she was a neighbor or not. I would look up references, work experience, and recommendations from others. I have never really had a close relationship with a neighbor so that factors into my answer. Maybe if she was a good friend I would think twice.

It depends on the people involved.

IMO it's easier to reprimand/complain to a stranger than it is to a neighbor/friend.

I would trust a neighbor/friend not to snoop/steal from me.

I know one thing for sure that if you hire a cleaning person you will become a much neater and cleaner person because you won't want the cleaning person to think that you are a slob.:playful:

Give it a try and see what happens.

Good points all.......maybe I will?

I agree, it's easier to let go someone who is not a friend or neighbor if their work is not up to snuff or they have other issues with trust or personality. If you try the neighbor and decided not to continue using her, it may be awkward afterwards for the both of you.

To me it wouldn't matter if a person is a friend
or not, if the job is done wrong, they need telling
so that it doesn't happen again anywhere.

That might be the Scottish blood in me.

Mike.
