Our first cold front.

Okay, I'll admit that I've never been accused of being the sharpest knife in the drawer......case in point.

I just stepped outside to go get the paper off the driveway dressed like I have been since late spring which is in shorts, no shirt and barefooted......very bad decision !

The wind is howling out of the north at 25 mph, the actual temp. is 46 deg. and the windchill is hovering somewhere around 39 deg.......being too hardheaded and or lazy to step back inside and at least put a jacket on let's just say that I made it out to the end of the driveway and back to the front door again in record time.

I know it's just around the corner but I'd like to go on the record and say.......

September has been a "roller coaster" here, insofar as temperatures are concerned. We've had mornings in the upper 40's, and hit nearly 90 on some afternoons. Tonight it is supposed to drop into the mid 40's, then be nearly 90 by Thursday. If this keeps up, Winter is going to be interesting.

We don't really have much winter here in Houston and it was 94 degrees yesterday. We are promised a cool front later today and highs in the 80's for a few days. I would hate winter too if I had what you have. Its nice to wear shorts almost year round. I do have a couple of sweat shirts that come in handy around January and February. Its nice to clean the ferns up and leave them outside protected under the porch area.

We had snow yesterday, 3 inches by me and temps in the 30s, last night was the first hard frost in the mid 20s. I don't hate winter, love the four seasons! Today's supposed to be back in the 50s, sunny already, and 60s later this week.

Here we have strong North winds with temps in the low 50s with some rain. It is not a good day to work outside. Ranch chores must get done, however, so it is time to pull on the long pants, boots, and winter jacket. Like you, I love the season changes, but I don't like making ruts in the pastures with the tractor in the mud!

Until you live with -40 degree temps even a +39 is a hot summer day. But I know how you feel because I am visiting my family in Texas this summer and can't wait to get back to the cooler temp's of my home in Alaska!

Pretty much the same here in PA, Don.

September we had nights that went down to 33, then the next day it would go up to 92.

At least I got some exercise - constantly changing my wardrobe.

Minus 40 is a little bit too cold for me Pete, but I'm with you when it comes to heat, I wouldn't want to live in Texas (where my sister lives), Arizona, Florida, etc.....not one who likes too much heat! :p

The older I get, the more of a cold wimp I've become. We get some snow here, but it melts as soon as the sun comes out.

My family lives in Northern Ohio, freeze your fanny country. The gray skies there all winter long bothered me more than the cold, but I don't want to go back to either of those climate conditions.

Our northern mountains in New Mexico got some snow last night. Some of the ski runs got enough snow to starting skiing.

Mama said she was chilly earlier so I turned on the furnace this morning for the first time this season just enough to break the chill in the house.....it's 43 deg. outside now and it was 61 deg. inside.

That -40 is just a cold snap.... for most of the winter out at my cabin it was around -10 to -20 and I became quite used to that.
