Our version of retirement: Living a childhood dream

@Gary O' ...I found a new project for you.

Even though it’s fake, it will might keep random burglars away.
Building a fake security camera birdhouse

Noticed something today while in the shop

The pendulum has swung

The little (intentionally cobbled/butchered) feeder is getting much more popular than the big (more normal) feeder

I think my tiny feathered friends are getting into funky

These two pics were taken within a few seconds of each other

Funky feeder

Normal (mundane) feeder

Tackling the little alley 'tween the house and shop

Anything's an improvement (I tell myself)
Design while building can get risky
So far, so good (sorta)

The walkway is done (for awhile)
Little raised beds (boxes) are in place for Virginia Creeper)
Kept them away from the walls
Had a bad experience with wisteria at another place
It wended it's way into the walls and gutters
I'll keep an eye on this stuff
It's pretty aggressive

Next the trellis

My tiny friends were all a flutter today
They came in droves
about twenty or more
right behind each other
Musta been a hundred or so around the feeders
And they bickered
Couldn't settle down
Never seen anything quite like it

If I knew birds better, I'd know the sign
Like a storm is coming....or something

I agree with you on wisteria. The stuff is nearly as bad as kudzu. But I don’t understand the appeal of Virginia Creeper. We consider it an invasive vine and jerk it out of the ground whenever possible. May what we call Virginia creeper is actually a different plant. Or maybe your colder winters keep it in check better.

the walkway looks good.

Well, we inherited some when we bought the place
My lady likes the vine hanging on the front fence, and the blossoms are pretty
She is given to 'use what we have'
I don't argue that
I just build
She plants

But, yeah, we know it's invasive
I have some really good trimmers

Thanks, guys

Yes, maggiemae, we are a bit off hwy 97 tween Chiloquin and Chemult. On the right (sunny) side of the Cascade range
Yes,we are fully off grid.
I didn’t think I’d be OK with that either, but one adjusts, and one amasses generators like a normal person would collect spoons for cooking (we have six, all sizes for varying applications…two of those are for backup)
I may go solar, but those prices hafta go down and/or those batteries hafta get better….much better.
Our Honda 2000 is my go to genny
It supplies all we need for the cabin we live in
Heh
I’m getting ahead of myself
Here’s some pics of our progress (feel free to ask questions);

Admirable! I wish you continued happiness.

This arbor endeavor is not going to my satisfaction

Strung some lights
Not sure if I like 'em or not

My lady loves it all, so........I'll let it sit
....for awhile anyway..revisit it

Gonna take around three years to get some stuff to wend its way up and over

I need another project....get my mind off this thing

Laid a live edge slab down for a bench
She loves that too (I don't)

Oh well, I'm just the handy man
It pays the same whether I like it or not

My thought is to remove those boards off the ground and replace with crushed stone. Do you need the gate? It will look great when the plantings fill out.

She loves the boardwalk (I like it too)
Maybe lay some rock on the sides
and some planters

Do need the gate
Otherwise the deer will have a feast on the garden

Yeah, the plantings....it's a waiting game now
