Our version of retirement: Living a childhood dream

Robert Frost

Gathering Leaves

Spades take up leaves
No better than spoons,
And bags full of leaves
Are light as balloons.

I make a great noise
Of rustling all day
Like rabbit and deer
Running away.

But the mountains I raise
Elude my embrace,
Flowing over my arms
And into my face.

I may load and unload
Again and again
Till I fill the whole shed,
And what have I then?

Next to nothing for weight,
And since they grew duller
From contact with earth,
Next to nothing for color.

Next to nothing for use,
But a crop is a crop,
And who’s to say where
The harvest shall stop?

I sure appreciate that, @Meanderer
The appointment with the ophthalmologist is this coming Monday

The optometrist took many photos and scans
Advanced dry macular degeneration (dry AMD)
Zero retinal tissue in my right eye
(cannot read a thing with that one)

Very little retinal tissue remaining in my left eye
(I can still read with it in good lighting, and it compensates the loss in my right eye)

Guess I've had it for years, but the last few months I've noticed a rapid decline

If I can somehow get this stabilized, I'm good with that

Will be thinking about you, Gary, and sending up some prayers.

@Gary O' A while back, I took a picture of a hawk that had found a snack and lighted on a pine stump in our yard. I was unable to access it as the software was playing Hide & Seek. I got a SD chip reader and finally can do so.

This post has given me the opportunity to show you my camera.....

So, I've stocked and sold my avian abodes in all the high end junk shops here in our little town
And they did quite well......for about three years
Some selling for as much as $70

close up smaller.jpg

Now?
Nothing is moving

Got a call today
My most productive shop
'Come get your stuff, the place is closing'

They really didn't need to call me

I imagine the junk shops are suffering more than most stores

Not many folks care to spend on fancy things in this economy

My opinion;
If you have a retail business in this economic climate, best sell something needful

Sorry to hear this Gary. Maybe you'll find another shop that's doing better. Hope so. 🌹

Yesterday we took back the little abodes and some other trinkets
with the exception of a live edge bookcase I parked there a few months ago
The young gal that helped me gather my stuff up was very nice
So
Asked her if she wanted it
She was delighted
Thing is, she's not the owner
The owner dropped by and threatened to call the cops if she didn't leave the premises
The little gal called us and let us know things are getting tenuous and to get the bookcase ASAP

We dropped by today
Doors locked
New sign
GREEK PASTRIES (or some such)
Saw the bookcase thru the window

Getting interesting

Yeah, not in this town

Couple hundred miles north I'd make a killing
But
It's never been my intent

These little wood butcherings will become gifts
Maybe you could find a distributor up north and work out a deal.
